Multan: Senate Chairman Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani attended the "Rasm-e-Qul" of renowned local political figure Malik Haji Munawar Hayat Sandheela in Bunda Sandeela, Multan. He was accompanied by MNA Syed Ali Qasim Gilani and MPA Syed Ali Haider Gilani. Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani praised late Malik Haji Munawar Hayat Sandeela for his political contributions and offered condolences to the bereaved family. Later, the chairman Senate performed the turban-tying ceremony (Dastarbandi) of the late leader's son, Malik Zubair Munawar Sandeela. Former federal minister Syed Hamid Saeed Kazmi led a collective prayer for the departed soul. The ceremony was attended by a large number of people, including Malik Haji Ghulam Jaffar Sandheela, Malik Haji Mureed Hussain Sandheela, Malik Haji Aziz Rasool Sandheela, former MNA Mehr Irshad Sial, Malik Manzoor Domra, Mehr Mahmood-ul-Hassan Sial, Malik Qamar Zaman Sandeela, and several other prominent figures such as Pirzada Mian Salahuddin Bhutta, Mian Zubair Bhutta, Mian Yasir B hutta, Salman Khakwani, and Naeem Khan, along with respected members of the community.
Rwanda’s High Commissioner sees future prospects in science, technology with Pakistan
Islamabad: High Commissioner of the Republic of Rwanda to Pakistan, Harerimana Fatou on Tuesday called on a meeting with Coordinator General, Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary for discussing the future prospects of institutional cooperation between Pakistan and Rwanda.
The Rwanda's envoy to Pakistan, Harerimana Fatou in meeting with Coordinator, Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, emphasized the institutional cooperation with the African region, especially in science and technology.
She appreciated the COMSTECH administration for providing four scholarships to the Rwandan students in different fields and also asked for enhancing bilateral cooperation in scientific education, said a release issued.
The High Commissioner of the Republic of Rwanda said that through scientific cooperation, Pakistan and Rwanda can come closer to share each other's experience at institutional level and COMSTECH to play a significant role in this regard.
She said that institutional cooperation is pivotal to build capacity in key areas of scientific cooperation through exchange programs and bilateral Institutional linkages at country level.
She said that prime institutions like COMSTECH also provide an enabling environment to increase investment, and trade through technology-based projects within countries and regions.
Meanwhile, Coordinator , Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary said in meeting that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has launched COMSTECH Consortium of Excellence (CCoE) comprising of key academic and Science, Technology and Engineering research institutions of OIC Member Countries.
He said that the COMSTECH Consortium of Excellence (CCoE) aimed at the program is to offer research fellowships to develop research capacity in the Member States in collaboration with prominent research institutions of the member states.
The program entails research training of 100 young scientists/engineers (enrolled in PhD, Masters programs or involved in active research) every year from OIC member states and Muslim Minorities in Non- OIC states, preference will be given to applicants from LDCs.
He said that our scholarship aims to build the scientific capacity of Member Countries in various scientific fields of science, technology, and innovation (STI) through benefitting from the best of talent globally.
Science and Technology Parks (STPs) are one of the most important innovation policy initiatives. The objective is to exchange ideas and support enterprises in OIC Countries for the development and exchange of technologies and innovations.
He said that COMSTECH works in close collaboration with various Standing Committees and other organs of the Member States of the OIC and their major Scientific and Technological Institutions, in addition to some international organizations.
The latter include The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), Islamic World Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ICESCO), Islamic World Academy of Sciences (IAS), Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), Global Environment Facility (GEF), United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), United Nations Development Program (UNDP), International Foundation for Science, (IFS), World Health Organization - Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office (WHO-EMRO).

Labour Court issues arrest warrants for DG HDA
Hyderabad: The Labour Court Hyderabad has issued non-bailable arrest warrants for the Director General of Hyderabad Development Authority (HDA) Muhammad Ishaq Khuhro on Tuesday.
According to details, the warrants had been issued due to consistent evasion of the DG from his appearance before the court.
The court was hearing a petition filed by Muhammad Arshad, Saba Iqbal and others for regularization of their contractual jobs in HDA and its former subsidiary Hyderabad Water and Sewerage Board (HWSB).
The court adjourned the hearing to January 10.
Pakistan made tremendous achievements in sports arena during past few months: Tarar
Islamabad: Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting, National Heritage and Culture Attaullah said on Tuesday that Pakistan had made tremendous achievements in the sports arena during past few months.
Delivering his speech at the opening ceremony of Media Cricket League 2025, he said upcoming International Cricket Council's Champions Trophy being held in Pakistan will proved to be a landmark achievement of the country.
The minister congratulated the organizers and sponsors of this event and thanked them for promotion of positive activities like sports.
He said that Shalimar Cricket Ground was a beautiful and scenic stadium in the foothills of Margallas and the spectators were going to watch good entertainment.
He said that Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will also award the winner and runner up teams of the event.
Tarar said that Shangai Cooperation Organization summit hosted in Islamabad was a manifestation that Pakistan was capable of organizing big events.
He remarked that hosting the Champions Trophy will improve Pakistan's positive and soft image in the world.
He said that sports were also included in recently launched "Urraan Pakistan program" which was apolitical programme.
He said that economy was stabilised, inflation had fallen to record low, bullish stock exchange had broken many records and foreign remittances had created new record.
He said that sports and politics should not be mingled with each other.
Government was working day and night for the improvement of sports in Pakistan, he maintained.
He opined that there was no harm in criticising politicians, political parties but bashing national institutions and economy was not in the interest of the country as it tarnished its image.
He said now even the political opponents of the government were acknowledging the economic stability of Pakistan He said that political stability was need of the hour and politicians hold negotiations as it was the only way to resolve problems.

Pneumonia can be deadly if not treated early: Dr Zulfiqar
Hyderabad: As it winter season a large number of children are being affected by pneumonia, with cold, cough, fever, sore throat and difficulty in breathing .
Pneumonia is inflammation of the lungs, usually caused by bacterial or viral infections. It may affect deeper lung tissues than bronchitis,which is airway tube inflammation, and can have symptoms such as fever, breathing problems and chest pain, showing up as a white shade in lung chest X-rays.
Talking to reporter here on Tuesday, Paediatrician Dr Zulfiqar Shaikh informed that Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs and it causes cough and fever and can make breathing difficult. Severe pneumonia can be deadly.
He said most infected children and adults will develop flu-like symptoms that will clear up on their own after a few days, but some may develop into more serious inflammation of the lungs requiring treatment and, in some cases, hospitalization may be needed .
About the treatment for pneumonia in kids he said that its depends on factors like the child's overall health condition, age, cause of the infection, and severity of the illness. For bacterial infection, an antibiotic is given to the patients.
In serious cases where the child has developed severe breathing issues, the patients must be hospitalize for proper treatment. This can include IV fluids, intravenous antibiotics, nebulizer treatments and more.
Children with mild pneumonia can take at least two to three weeks to get better. However, kids with a serious infection can take up to eight to nine weeks to recover from pneumonia ,Dr Zulfiqar said .
He said that risk of getting pneumonia can be reduce by obtaining a pneumococcal and influenza vaccination, frequently washing your hands, Keeping your distance from sick individuals. Maintaining a nutritious diet will also strengthen kids' immune system and reduce risk of contracting pneumonia.
Peadriction also suggest home remedies like giving your child plenty of healthy fluids such as broth and soups and using a saline nasal drop can be effective, too
