Hyderabad: The district administration organized a heritage walk here on Friday to highlight the city’s rich historical heritage and to familiarize the younger generation with that asset.
The walk, led by Commissioner Hyderabad Fayaz Hussain Abbasi, began from the historic Besant Hall in the city’s downtown.
Deputy Commissioner Zain-ul-Abideen Memon, Assistant Commissioner City Syed Noor Hussain and representatives of civil society and students took part in the walk.
The participants visited various historical sites across the city including Seth Mitharam Hostel, K.B. Azeem Khan Library, Radio Pakistan Hyderabad, Dail Das Club and the Assistant Commissioner’s Office.
They also visited Hiranand Bheromal Mansion and the Sindh University Old Campus in addition to the historic buildings in Haider Chowk, Kohinoor Chowk and Resham Gali areas.
The Mukhi House and the Jhamat Mal Kamat Rai building also welcomed the participants.
The route of the walk also included Hasrat Mohani Library, the Talpur Mirs’ Haram, Pakka Qila, the ancient Shahi Bazaar and the Kand Bai Water Trough.
Addressing the participants, the Commissioner Abbasi said that the credit for organizing the heritage walk goes to AC City Syed Noor Hussain. He noted that Hyderabad was an ancient and historic city where educational institutions and cultural centers were a symbol of its identity.
The district administration aims not only to preserve those historical sites but also to promote them worldwide so that the world may recognize Hyderabad’s cultural significance and tourism can be encouraged, he added.
The DC Hyderabad said that the city had several important and beautiful buildings from the British era which were being maintained by the Sindh Culture Department.
He added that the activity initially began as a building photography competition which was later transformed by the district administration into a full-fledged heritage walk.
Meanwhile, AC Hussain said the purpose of the walk was to present Hyderabad’s historical heritage and architectural beauty to the world.
He added that efforts were being made to raise awareness among the younger generation so that students could explore their city’s history and culture themselves and develop a strong connection with it.
Students who participated in the heritage walk appreciated the district administration’s initiative and said that they learned a great deal about their city’s history and ancient buildings information they were previously unaware of.
