Multan: Prof Dr. Malik Afzal, the founding chairman and dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU), who also served as its first chairman and dean, was laid to rest here on Monday.
He passed away after a protracted ill on Sunday evening. He was 87.
The funeral prayer of Dr Afzal was offered at Jhok Wains which was attended by a large number of people hailing from different walks of life.
Led by Qari Saleem Attari, it was attended among others by PML leaders Shaukat Bosan, MNSUAM Pro VC, Dr Istiaq Rawjana, BZU Registrar, Aijaz Ahmed, Deans, Dr Nazim Labar, Dean Abdul Qadoos Suhaib, Dr Javid Ahmed, Dr Abdul Sattar Malik, Dr Bashir Chaudhry, Dr Hanif, Dr Fawd Rasool, Dr Adnan Amjad, Dr Tariq Ismail, Dr Tayyab Ansari, Dr M. Sakeel and Dr Tahir Sultan.
Dr Afzal served BZU for a long time and worked hard to establish Pharmacy dept as faculty and acted as founding Dean.
He retired in 1998 and joined a private school system as principal till 2019.
After he suffered some ailments, he left and job.
His three children are working in BZU including Dean Faculty of Pharmacy, Dr Samina Afzal, Chairman Human Nutrition and Diatictics Dept, Dr Khurram Afzal and Dr Aafrina in Education dept.
BZU Dean of Islamic Studies and Langugaes, Dr Abdul Qudoos Suhaib paid rich tributes to Dr Afzal, saying that the late academician rendered invaluable services for BZU and faculty of Pharmacy.
He informed that Dr Afzal was highly respected faculty member of the university and served it from heart and soul.
