Dera ismail khan: Deputy Commissioner Dera Ismail Khan Ms. Sarah Rehman has inaugurated the Spring Tree Plantation campaign 'Billion Tree Plus' by planting a sapling in the premises of her office here Sunday.

The event was attended by Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Faseeh Ishaq Abbasi, forest department officials and the relevant staff of the Deputy Commissioner's office.

On this occasion, the DC emphasized that planting trees was a charity, as trees not only clean the environment but also serve as a major source of oxygen.

She urged both the administration and the relevant departments to plant thousands of saplings during the campaign, encouraging citizens to actively participate as well.

The DC announced that the target for this year's tree plantation campaign is to plant a total of 76,000 saplings. Out of these, 10,000 saplings will be planted in colleges, schools, universities, and government offices, while 66,000 will be planted by the Forest Department in various locations, she said and added, additionally, saplings will be distributed among citizens.

The DC appealed to the public to take part in the campaign to help make the city and the country greener and to assist in combating the growing climate change challenges.

Chiniot: On the instructions of IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, the police conducted a crackdown on criminal elements across the district.

SHO Police Station Muhammad Wala Sub-Inspector Muhammad Safdar, ASI Wajid Ali, along with a team, arrested 13 gamblers red-handed from Badrani Bhattian.

The accused were gambling on cockfighting.

The amount at stake was Rs. 54,400.

A case has been registered against the arrested accused at Police Station Muhammad Wala under the Gambling Act.

In this regard, District Police Officer Abdullah Ahmed said that a full-scale crackdown is underway against criminal elements to ensure the safety of citizens.

Citizens should cooperate with the police to eliminate crimes and report any kind of crime or social evil to the police on 15.

Rawalpindi: Rawalpindi district police here on Sunday arrested three accused allegedly involved in double murder case of Civil Line area, said a police spokesman.

He informed that City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi Syed Khalid Hamdani talking notice of the double murder incident directed the police officers to immediately arrest the accused and sought a report from Superintendent of Police, Potohar.

Police conducting raids managed to net three including the main accused namely Aryan involved in the double murder case.

The deceased were identified as Iqbal and Sajil.

According to preliminary investigation, the incident occurred due to a fight between children.

Raids are being conducted to arrest other accused involved in the incident, SP Potohar said adding, the accused in custody are being interrogated and challan will be submitted with solid evidence.

Multan: Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) claimed on Sunday to have seized 13,788 kg plastic shopping bags having thickness less than 75 microns from various parts of the district during the last one week. Talking to reporter, Assistant Director Environment Hameed Akhtar said that a crackdown was launched against the wholesale dealers of shopping/ polythene bags after amendments in the "Production and Consumption of Single Use Plastic Product Regulations 2023".

He said that two teams were formed for crackdown against the wholesale dealers. Multiple units were sealed and FIRs got registered. EPA Director General Punjab appreciated the efforts of Multan team and reiterated that polythene bags were a major environmental hazard, and strict action would continue until complete eradication. He urged the public, shopkeepers, and industrialists to adopt eco-friendly alternatives and comply with environmental laws to avoid severe legal consequences. The EPA issued a strong warning that those involved in the manufacturing, sale, and transportation of banned polythene bags would face a strict zero-tolerance policy, with even more stringent measures in the coming days, he concluded.

Khanewal: A 15-days table tennis coaching and training camp is underway at Sports Gymnasium Khanewal under the Khelata Punjab and Talent Hunt policy of the Punjab government.

According to the details, the table tennis training camp is being organized by the District Sports and Youth Affairs Department and the District Table Tennis Association under the Khelata Punjab and Talent Hunt policy of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz in which, in addition to coaching, training will be given to girls and boys of various table tennis clubs.

According to President District Table Tennis Association, Haji Amber Bashir Ahmed, the first phase of the coaching camp would be completed before Ramazan and the second phase would start after it. Players from across the district could contact the District Sports and Youth Affairs department and District Table Tennis Association to participate in the camp. In this training camp, Asad Jawad Rana, a qualified Coach of the International Table Tennis Federation and provincial table tennis coach of the Punjab Sports Board, will provide modern training to the players.

Sargodha: Police arrested two people and recovered 99 kites and 18 string rolls from them.

According to a spokesman, Sadar police arrested Saqib and Aqib with kites and other items.

The crackdown against kite makers and sellers will continue on a daily basis without discrimination, he added.
