Haripur:The police here on Friday apprehended three persons for thrashing a teacher of the Punjab College.

The police said the accused beat the teacher namely Asadullah in limits Tip Police Station.

The accused had been identified as Shan, Aqib Shahid and Muhammad Rizwan.

Haripur:The district police on Friday arrested drug pushers and recovered drugs from their possessions.

On the directions of District Police Officers (DPO), a team of City Police Station led by Station House Officer (SHO), Ijaz Ali apprehended a person namely Yaqoob and recovered over 3 Kgs hashish from him.

The team also arrested Faisal and recovered liquor 60 liters.

Meanwhile, Sarai Saleh Police nabbed Muhammad Sabir and recovered liquor 20 liters.

The police registered cases against the accused and launched further investigations.

Sukkur:Sukkur IBA University on Friday hosted the inauguration of its annual Book Fair 2025, with Barrister Arslan Islam Shaikh, Mayor of Sukkur, as the Chief Guest.

He also purchased books for the General Library, Sukkur to enrich its collection for the public.

During his welcome address, Prof. Asif Ahmed Shaikh, Vice Chancellor of Sukkur IBA University, highlighted the institution's international recognition and its commitment to fostering intellectual growth. He shared that the book fair will be held over three days, from January 24 to 26, 2025.

The first day is dedicated to students and faculty, while January 25 and 26 (Saturday and Sunday) are open to the general public and their families from Sukkur, Rohri, and nearby cities. He announced plans to extend the book fair to a week-long event in the coming years, aiming to shift children's focus from mobile devices and social media back to books to help them develop into informed citizens who will contribute to building a better Pakistan.

Rawalpindi:Two injured criminals were arrested in encounter with Rattaamral police team while their two accomplices escaped on early Friday morning.

According to a Rawalpindi Police spokesman, Police also recovered 26 stolen mobile phones, a laptop and weapons from their possession.

He informed that four accused riding on two motorcycles were signaled by the Rattaamral Police team during snap checking, but they started firing on the police.

In the retaliatory fire, the accused Jawad and Habib were arrested in injured condition while the other two managed to flee while firing.

Raids were underway to arrest the absconding suspects, the spokesman said.

City Police Officer, Rawalpindi Syed Khalid Hamdani lauded the Station House Officer Rattaamral and his team for bravely confronting the accused.

The motorcycle recovered from the suspect was also snatched from a citizen at gunpoint a few days ago.

Dera ghazi khan:Ashfaq Ahmad Chaudhry has taken over the charge as new commissioner of Dera Ghazi Khan division and pledged to encourage teamwork for proper enforcement of initiatives taken by Chief Minister Mayram Nawaz Sharif for public facilitation and to provide relief to poor segments of society.

In an introductory meeting after formally assuming the charge here Friday, commissioner said, he would lead the functionaries to excellence in performance through teamwork and asked officials to focus on their respective duties with a warning that no negligence would be tolerated.

Addressing officials via the video link, he laid emphasis on teamwork to enforcing initiatives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for public facilitation and relief. Ashfaq Ahmad Chaudhry said that solving public problems through improved municipal services and overall good governance would remain a priority and ordered to continue operations against encroachments, illegal housing societies, petrol pumps and oil units across the division. Pending cases of housing colonies and petrol pumps would be finalized through a proper procedure, he said adding that it would create new job opportunities for the youth.
