Sukkur:Sukkur IBA University on Friday hosted the inauguration of its annual Book Fair 2025, with Barrister Arslan Islam Shaikh, Mayor of Sukkur, as the Chief Guest.

The event commenced with the Chief Guest visiting stalls set up by renowned vendors and publishers from across Pakistan, showcasing a wide variety of books at discounted prices.

In his inaugural address, Barrister Arslan Islam Shaikh commended Sukkur IBA University for organizing this significant and positive initiative. He stated that such efforts are the need of the hour, as society today relies heavily on information from social media, which often lacks credibility.

He stressed the importance of books as the true source of reliable knowledge. Praising the university's efforts, he remarked, 'Sukkur IBA University has consistently taken steps that benefit society, and this book fair is yet another commendable initiative.' He also purchased books for the General Library, Sukkur to enrich its collection for the public.

During his welcome address, Prof. Asif Ahmed Shaikh, Vice Chancellor of Sukkur IBA University, highlighted the institution's international recognition and its commitment to fostering intellectual growth. He shared that the book fair will be held over three days, from January 24 to 26, 2025.

The first day is dedicated to students and faculty, while January 25 and 26 (Saturday and Sunday) are open to the general public and their families from Sukkur, Rohri, and nearby cities. He announced plans to extend the book fair to a week-long event in the coming years, aiming to shift children's focus from mobile devices and social media back to books to help them develop into informed citizens who will contribute to building a better Pakistan.

The Sukkur IBA University Book Fair 2025 will remain open to the public for January 25-26, 2025 from 09:00 am to 05:00 pm offering a diverse selection of books to inspire readers of all ages.

Tank:A police constable was kidnapped by unidentified terrorists following his house being set on fire, destroying all the belongings inside here at Garra Shaad village, last night.

According to a police spokesman, during the attack, constable Akhtar Zaman was taken away without any resistance, causing widespread fear and panic in the area, as it was the first time a police personnel had been abducted and his house destroyed in the village.

Soon after the incident, he said, District Police Officer (DPO) Tank, Aslam Nawaz Khan, issued emergency instructions to all relevant police officers and under the leadership of the DSP and SHO, a heavy police force launched an operation in the area.

The police have begun raids on various locations and after identification of the terrorists' hideouts, additional personnel had been added to the operation.

The police have instructed residents to report any suspicious activity and have increased surveillance of all streets and routes.

The DPO Tank said that terrorists would be soon apprehended and brought to justice.

Senior police officials have appealed to the public to assist the police in the operation and report any suspicious activity immediately to prevent further terrorist activities in the area.

Haripur:Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shoaib Abbas here on Friday chaired a meeting to review monthly performance of the health department.

The District Monitoring Officer, the District Health Officer and other concerned officials attended the meeting.

The deputy commissioner directed to provide best medical facilities to the people on priority.

Multan:An interactive seminar was held at Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Agriculture (MNSUA), in collaboration with a delegation from Pak-Turk Maarif International Schools and Colleges.

The purpose of the seminar was to raise awareness about the high-quality education, modern teaching system, and facilities provided by the school with the support of Turkiye and to encourage teachers to consider enrolling their children.

Principal Syeda Quratulain Iqbal, in her presentation, highlighted the educational policies of Pak Turk Maarif School, teaching methods, and the admission test process. She also discussed the scholarships offered to students and the conducive learning environment, which impressed both teachers and parents.

The university faculty attentively listened to the presentation and asked questions about the educational standards.

Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmad Rajwana thanked the Pak-Turk Maarif School delegation and emphasized the importance of such institutions in enhancing the quality of education. He praised the efforts of Pak Turk Maarif School in not only providing academic excellence but also fostering the moral and mental development of students. He expressed hope that this meeting would pave the way for future educational collaborations between the two institutions.

The event was attended by Vice Principals Ms. Misbah Akram, Mr. Faisal Khan, Dr. Muhammad Ishtiaq, Dr. Muhammad Nadir Naqash, and other faculty and staff members.

Gilgit:Karakoram International University (KIU) and the International Center for Culture and Communication Malaysia (ICCM) have agreed to work together to promote higher education and research.

According to KIU's Public Relations Department this agreement was reached during a meeting between KIU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Attaullah Shah and ICCM representatives Benjamin Leong and Dr Amna Javed.

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on enhancing the skills of students, faculty, and staff, as well as launching joint programs in TVET education and engineering technology. The Vice-Chancellor highlighted his vision for strengthening TVET education at KIU and across Gilgit-Baltistan and emphasized the university's existing partnerships with institutions in China, Malaysia, Central Asia, and Europe.

Dr Attaullah Shah shared that 24 students from KIU are currently studying in Chinese universities under exchange programs, and 40 more students will be sent next year to the Forestry and Technology College in Greece. The objective is to provide students with international exposure, modern technological skills, and expertise in horticulture and forestry.

Furthermore, KIU and ICCM aim to collaborate with the Gilgit-Baltistan government to promote TVET education in the region. ICCM representative Benjamin Leong praised the Vice-Chancellor's commitment to international education. At the end of the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor presented a book on Mountain Studies to the ICCM delegates.

Rawalpindi:Rawalpindi police in an action against suspected drug peddlers and other lawbreakers here on Thursday arrested six accused besides recovering 17 kg charras and other items from their possession, said a police spokesman.

He informed that Rattaamral police held Shehryar alias Makri and recovered 12 kg charras.

The accused was allegedly involved in supplying drugs to the students of different educational institutions.

In other raids, R.A.Bazar, Saddar Wah, City and Mandra police rounded up five accused namely Haq Waris with 2100 grams charras, Arslan with 1390 grams charras, Waseem for having 720 grams charras, Hassan Ali for carrying 650 grams charras and Yasir on recovery of 570 grams charras.

Separate cases have been registered against all the accused while further investigations are underway.
