Karachi: Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori on Saturday inaugurated Shine Humanity's Health Unit Van at Governor House. Speaking to the media on the occasion, he stated that under the Governor's Initiative, the health unit van will provide free medical services and disease diagnosis. The facility will particularly benefit IT students, visitors at Umeed Ki Ghanti, and other deserving individuals, ensuring immediate medical assistance. Governor Sindh emphasized that public health is a top priority, and welfare organizations play a crucial role in supporting the government's efforts. He commended Shine Humanity for its outstanding social services. Highlighting other initiatives, he mentioned that 50,000 students are receiving advanced IT education at Governor House, and that its doors remain open to the public, with hundreds of thousands of visitors having toured the premises so far.

Karachi: The 8th meeting of the Senate of Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) was held on Thursday at the Senate Hall of the university, which was chaired by Vice Chancellor Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai.

The Senate was informed that the budget of SMIU in the financial year 2023-24 was first time surplus in the history of the university.

Giving its details it was said that in year 2023-24, SMIU's budget was 963,315,795 rupees, expenditure was 907,484,864 rupees and 55,831,494 rupees were surplus.

The meeting said the grant received from the Federal and Provincial governments was 498,783,149 rupees, while the SMIU's contribution to the budget was Rs. 464,532,646 rupees.

The Senate was further informed that the SMIU's home contribution remained 50 percent to the total budget, generated from its own resources. Also the pension Fund was increased from 134.809 million rupees in the financial year 2023- 24, while it was 74.115 million rupees in year 2022-23.

Likewise, the budget deficit was gradually reduced in the last four years.

The Senate was informed that in the financial year 2018-19 budget deficit was 70 million rupees, in 2019-20 was 67 million rupees, in 2020-21 was 8 million rupees, in 2021-22 was 7 million rupees, in 2022-23 was 6 million rupees and in 2023-24 the SMIU went 50 percent in surplus.

The Senate was also informed that the Endowment Fund of SMIU was increased to 46 million rupees in 2023-24.

The Senate passed resolution for annual budget estimates for the financial year 2024-25, amounting to Rs. 1453.405 million rupees against the recurring resources of the university.

The Senate also approved minutes of the meetings of the Syndicate and other statutory bodies of the university.

Addressing the Senate Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai said SMIU is the first public sector university in the province which has 50 percent surplus budget. He said such success was achieved by reducing expenditures and generating home resources.

Dr. Sahrai said SMIU's efficiency in financial, academic and administrative matters is a reflection of its successful management and policies.

The members of the Senate appreciated Vice Chancellor of SMIU, its faculty and administrative staff for making the SMIU one of the finically sustainable and quality universities of the country.

The meeting was attended by Senate members including Dr. A.Q. Mughal, Research Professor, Greenwich University (Nominee of HEC Islamabad), Prof. Dr. Tauha Hussain Ali, Vice Chancellor, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Sohail Anwar Baloch, Additional Secretary, Universities and Boards Department, Government of Sindh, Haji Muhammad Hanif Tayyab, Ex-Federal Minister and others.

Karachi: Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development (ICCD) organised a "Sustainable Tourism Forum" here on Thursday to promote Tourism in Muslim countries.The opening ceremony was attended by Iran's Governor of Khorasan Razavi Ghulam Hussain Mozaffari as Guest of Honor, FPCCI President, and Secretary ICCD along with International diplomats delegations.

Addressing the Forum, Mozaffari said that a sustainable tourism forum was a good initiative for tourism expansion across countries. He stressed the comprehensive policy that contemporary societal trends and challenges had now led the experts to prioritize the pursuit of citizen happiness and well-being as the central focus of their policy decisions. Sustainable tourism is the result of sustainable development and can only be based on Peace and Human Solidarity.

He further said that sustainable tourism was the process of objection against the dehumanisation of the common atmosphere of the human generation, not a project as it minimizes the negative impacts and maximizes the positive one.

Mozaffari said that it should not be forgotten that fourth generation of human rights relies on sustainability rights. Tourism from an islamic point of view was living with each other in harmony, he pointed out. He ensured that Iran was ready to come forward to extend sustainable tourism in future.

The message of OIC Secretary General Hussein Brahim Taha was communicated by Farha Ramdzan.

In his message, Taha extended sincere gratitude to Pakistan for hosting a valuable event on Tourism. Pakistan has constantly reinstated its commitment to promoting a sustainable Islamic tourism industry and infrastructure. He said that a strong linkage of the private and public sectors was important for the promotion of sustainability. The tourism sector contributed billions of dollars to the economy globally. Tourism played a crucial role in cultural exchanges, he added.

FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh shared his views on the event and said the event would provide opportunities in the tourism sector. The socio-economic aspects were immensely important for the development of countries, hence it was the need to increase the investment in the tourism sector as it covered both social and economic prospects of the state. He further said tourism offered opportunities for creating employment, was useful for community development and broadened the country overall impact on other nations.

Pakistan was the home of the oldest civilisation, several mountain peaks, northern beauty, and southern diverse history that were of crucial attraction in the past and required constant improvements and preservations services, he stressed. Sheikh re-highlighted the role of tourism that it offered businesses to prevail in the long run, surge in profits for the local residents and trades could be encouraged.

Secretary Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development (ICCD) Yousef Hasan Khalawi said that this was a new platform for collaboration. We needed to sit together and agree about the challenges which may arise during this journey of our nation, culture, arts, and sustainability.

He stressed that we believed in the concept of sustainability and had to develop new come-ups within the tourism industry based on sustainability. Tourism is not an easy market but a market of strong players. Khalawi highlighted that tourism means enjoying a new experience every single time you visit a certain place. There would be no tourism industry without a strong hospitality sector, no international tourism without connections such as airlines, railways, and transport which means infrastructure of the host country, and no business without professional entrepreneurs, he concluded.

Secretary Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development (ICCD) distributed the honorary shields among the notable guests.
