IG Punjab orders high security alert in Punjab


Lahore: Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, has instructed a high security alert across the province in light of the current situation.



Intelligence-based search and sweep operations and mock drills are continuing throughout the Punjab. According to the spokesperson of the Punjab Police, 791 search and sweep operations and 7 mock drills were conducted in the past two days. IG Punjab said that during the search operations, wanted criminals, habitual offenders, and suspects involved in serious crimes were apprehended. From the suspects’ possession, 03 Kalashnikovs, 30 rifles, 21 handguns, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition were recovered. Dr. Usman Anwar further said that mock drills will continue to combat terrorists and criminals.



The mock drills involve teams from Punjab Police, CTD, Special Branch, Elite Force, Rescue 1122, and other law enforcement agencies.

ATC extends interim bail of PTI leader Owais Younas, others until April 11

Lahore: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Wednesday extended the interim bail of PTI Lahore General Secretary Owais Younas and several other accused individuals until April 11 in the May 9 cases, including attacks on Jinnah House and Askari Tower.

ATC Judge Manzer Ali Gill presided over the hearing, during which multiple accused, including Owais Younas, Husnain Ali, Azam Bhatti, Azeem Ullah, Syeda Fatima, Rukhsana Naveed, Haider Ali, and Taqi Khan, appeared before the court and marked their attendance.

During the proceedings, police informed the court that the arrest of accused Azam Bhatti was not required in the May 9 cases. They also requested additional time to conclude investigations against the remaining accused.

Following this, the counsel for Azam Bhatti sought permission to withdraw his client's pre-arrest bail application, which the court allowed.

Subsequently, the court disposed of Azam Bhatti's bail application as being withdrawn. The court also extended the interim bail of the remaining accused until April 11 and adjourned further proceedings.

IG Punjab releases another Rs. 3m for treatment of police employees

Lahore: Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar is committed to the health welfare of his force and their families. In continuation of which, another Rs. 03 million has been released for the treatment of employees suffering from serious diseases and their families.

While giving details, the Punjab Police spokesperson said that Sub-Inspector Khadim Ali was issued Rs. 0.5 million for major surgery. Sub-Inspector Irfan Munawar, Constables Qamar Ilyas, Hamza Khan and Sanwal Shahzad were given Rs. 350,000 each for treatment. Constable Muhammad Sami Ullah was issued Rs. 1.5 lakh for major surgery. Inspector Shamshair Khan, Constables Ikram Ashraf, Muhammad Yasin, ASI Asghar Ali, Head Constable Muhammad Anas, Constables Asad Abbas and Shabbir-ur-Rehman were issued Rs. 01 lakh each for treatment.

Junior Clerk Ghulam Mohiuddin, Head Constable Kasur Tahir, Constable Nasir Ali, Constable Mathila Khan were issued a total of Rs. 230,000 for their and their families' treatment.

The IG Punjab approved the release of funds after scrutiny by the Medical Financial Assistance Committee. Dr. Usman Anwar. said that modern medical facilities are also being provided to police employees under MOUs with various health institutions.

CM orders immediate rollback of TDCP double-decker bus fare hike

Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has rejected the fare increase for the Tourism Development Corporation Punjab (TDCP) double-decker bus service and ordered its immediate withdrawal.

Following her directive, the notification regarding the fare hike has been retracted, restoring the previous ticket prices.

The fare for the Sightseeing Lahore Bus Service had been raised from Rs. 200 to Rs. 500, while a significant increase, from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 20,000, was proposed for corporate sector bookings, educational institutions, and commercial activities. Expressing strong displeasure over the decision, the CM directed TDCP officials to reverse the fare hike, emphasizing that the bus service operates on three routes to promote tourism in Lahore and should remain affordable for the public.

CM Maryam Nawaz reiterated that the double-decker bus service was launched to provide sightseeing and entertainment opportunities for the general public. She stressed that any increase in fares would place an unnecessary financial burden on citizens and reaffirmed her commitment to offering the best travel and tourism facilities at minimal costs.
