Lahore: Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali has said that alumni are the fourth pillar for every university like teachers, students and employees, without whose participation no university could become a leading university.

He expressed these views while addressing the first ever alumni dinner organized by Punjab University Alumni Office at Hailey College of Commerce's lawn.

On this occasion, PU Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood, Senior Vice President Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Engr. Khalid Usman, Registrar Dr Ahmed Islam, Director PU Alumni Office Prof Dr Hamid Saeed, PU ASA President Dr Amjad Abbas Magsi, faculty members and a large number of former students of PU were present.

In his address, Prof Dr Muhammad Ali said that our alumni are spread all over the world and are holding excellent positions and with their help and involvement, PU will move forward. He said that he will do whatever he can as VC to restore the glory of PU. He said, 'We are opening the research labs and services established in PU to all the universities of Lahore.' He said that the PU Library can also be used by the students of all the universities in Lahore. He said that being the VC of a great alma mater, he will try to bring such a transport system in collaboration with other universities of Lahore that all the students can benefit from it. He said that there are alumni in many institutions who are ready to provide funds at a call. He said that efforts will be made to conduct the annual meeting of PU alumni next year by elected office bearers. 'We all have to put aside the bitterness, mistakes, shortcomings and differences of the past and work together to make PU one of the best universities in the world.' He said 'We will strengthen the PU Alumni Office so that the university can benefit from it.' He said that one of our alumni has promised to construct a building in the Law College. He said that he is grateful to Nawab Sadiq Abbasi who donated the land of Old Campus, and Sir Ganga Ram for donating Hailey College of Banking and Finance to PU. He praised the Alumni Office for organizing a fruitful ceremony.

Engr. Khalid Usman said that PU has provided Pakistan with the best human resource. He said that the Lahore Chamber of Commerce is ready to work with PU to revive Pakistan's economy. He said that the Pakistani nation has high hopes from businessmen for the improvement of the country's conditions. He said that they will promote research projects in collaboration with PU to benefit 45,000 businesses registered with the LCCI.

Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood said that the love we have for our institution is unmatched. He said that even though our graduates are young, they still show their childhood. He said that the seed sown by the alumni last year has become a sapling under the patronage of Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Ali, which we will all make into a tree together.

Lahore: Under the directives of Additional IG Traffic Mirza Farhan Baig, strict enforcement of traffic laws and swift issuance of driving licences continues across Punjab.

According to a spokesperson, more than 30,000 citizens availed licensing facilities in the last 24 hours. Out of these, 10,300 individuals obtained learner licences, 11,300 received regular driving licences, and 8,100 renewed their licences.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Traffic Police took strict action against traffic violators, issuing 29,800 challans in a single day. The violations included: 2,274 challans for lane violations,3700 challans for driving without a licence, 2,800 challans for motorcyclists without helmets, 1,636 challans for not wearing seatbelts, 1,716 challans for unregistered vehicles and 7,000 challans for other serious traffic violations.

Mirza Farhan Baig emphasized the importance of following traffic laws, stating, "Observing traffic rules is a national responsibility, and zero tolerance will be maintained against violators across the province."

He urged citizens to avoid legal action and heavy fines by adhering to traffic regulations and obtaining their licences through service centers, licensing centers, and the online licensing portal.

Lahore: More than 12,000 policemen were deployed for security of Australia and

England match of the ICC Champions Trophy at Gaddafi Stadium here on Saturday.

On the instructions of Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr Usman Anwar, official sremained high alert, ensuring comprehensive security for the players, officials, and cricket fans.

He emphasised that no stone should be left unturned to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of international matches. He said that effective and close coordination with the Pakistan Cricket Board, district administration, security agencies, and all relevant institutions must be ensured. A Punjab police spokesperson shared that more than 12,000 police officers and personnel were deployed for security of the Australia and England match. Snipers were positioned at residences, routes, the stadium, and surrounding buildings.

The Dolphin Squad, Police Response Units, and Elite teams carried out effective patrolling around key routes and locations, while Safe City cameras were used for continuous monitoring of the teams' routes, the stadium, and other important locations. Additional traffic wardens were deployed to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow and proper parking. The IG Punjab instructed that search, sweep, combing, and intelligence-based operations continued.

Lahore: Punjab Assembly (PA) Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan on Friday termed holding of 1st CPA Asia and Southeast Asia Regional Conference as significant milestone in the parliamentary journey of the Punjab Assembly.

A special ceremony was held at the Punjab Assembly to acknowledge the successful hosting of the 1st CPA Asia and South East Asia Regional Conference, said a press release issued here.

The event recognized the contributions of assembly officials, staff and partner institutions by awarding honorary shields.

The Speaker said, "Holding of the conference represents a major diplomatic achievement at the international level."

He extended congratulations to Punjab Assembly Secretary General Chaudhry Amer Habib and his team for their exemplary arrangements and tireless efforts in ensuring the conference's success.

Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan further emphasized that the inclusion of the Punjab Assembly in the CPA Asia Executive Committee was a testament to its effective leadership and parliamentary capabilities.

He attributed the success of this conference to teamwork and outstanding arrangements, wherein all relevant institutions exhibited exemplary performance.

He also declared the designation of Pakistan as the CPA Asia Regional Secretariat a remarkable honor, asserting that this achievement marks the beginning of a new chapter in Pakistan's parliamentary diplomacy. He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the continued hosting of such prestigious international events in the future.
