Lahore: Under the supervision of IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, Punjab Police's preparations are ongoing to expedite operations against the menace of Khawarij and the bandits of Kacha, in line with Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif's Safe Punjab Vision.

As part of this initiative, the procurement of more than 50 advanced telecommunication devices is in its final stages. A Punjab police spokesperson shared that the process of acquiring 25 additional bulletproof vehicles for the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and Border Area Police to combat the menace of Khawarij and Kacha bandits is also underway. To enhance Punjab Police's capabilities against the menace of Khawarij, 26 modern thermal surveillance solutions and thermal rifle scopes are being procured.

Additionally, more than 60 drones equipped with advanced technology are being purchased.

The IG Punjab emphasized that the police will ensure the elimination of bandits and miscreants in the Kacha region. He said that our brave personnel at inter-provincial police checkpoints stand as an impenetrable wall against terrorists. Border outposts are being reinforced and upgraded with advanced technology and thermal cameras. The valiant personnel of Punjab Police are courageously confronting the attacks of the menace of Khawarij in Dera Ghazi Khan and Mianwali.

The IG Punjab said that every soldier of Punjab Police stands ready to defeat the menace of Khawarij, Kacha bandits, and anti-state elements.

Lahore: On the directives of Inspector General Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, Punjab Police is actively enforcing the Kite Flying Prohibition Amendment Bill and the Anti-Kite Flying Act with full vigor.

Providing details, the Punjab Police spokesperson said that this year, across the province, including Lahore, 1,275 accused have been arrested, and 1,257 cases have been registered for violating the Anti-Kite Flying Act.

Additionally, 386,890 kites and over 12,850 spools of kite string (dor charkhiyan) have been confiscated, while challans for more than 975 cases have been submitted.

In Lahore alone, 374 accused were arrested, 376 cases were registered and 17,752 kites along with 564 spools of kite string were seized. Comparatively, last year, 12,525 accused were arrested, and 11,866 cases were registered across the province.

The IG Punjab has directed strict enforcement of the Kite Flying Prohibition Amendment Bill and instructed RPOs, CPOs, and DPOs to intensify the crackdown against kite flyers, sellers, and manufacturers. He emphasized that this life-threatening activity will not be tolerated, and those involved in this dangerous trade must face zero tolerance.

Furthermore, he ordered legal action against individuals engaged in the online sale of metal kite strings and kites. He urged parents to keep their children away from this deadly game and appealed to citizens to report any instances of kite flying to emergency helpline 15 to fulfill their civic responsibility.

Lahore: Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman highlighted the government's dedication to promoting healthy activities among the youth as a top priority during his address at the 124th annual sports event of the Government College University (GCU) Lahore on Sunday.

The event, which featured a colorful and vibrant closing ceremony, was attended by notable figures including tennis star Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Sports and Youth Affairs Secretary Muzaffar Khan Sial.

The chief secretaryaccompanied by GCU Registrar Dr. Shoukat Ali and Director of Sports Waseem Akhtar, presented awards to students, who displayed exceptional performance in various competitions. Aleena Gul from the Psychology Department was honored as the Best Female Athlete of 2025 for her outstanding achievements across multiple sports, while Muhammad Shahid from the Physical Education and Sports Department was named the Best Male Athlete.

In the team categories, the Psychology Department took home the trophy for Best Girls' Team, with the Political Science Department finishing in second place. The Commerce and Finance Department emerged victorious in the boys' team competition, while the Law Department claimed second place.

Chief Secretary Zaman, who was delighted to return to his alma mater, praised the students' enthusiasm and sportsmanship. He also took the opportunity to visit various university departments and engage with students on a wide range of topics. He emphasized the crucial role of sports in fostering a well-rounded educational experience.

GCU Registrar Dr. Shoukat Ali reflected on the university's rich sports legacy, noting its significant contributions to producing some of Pakistan's finest athletes. He congratulated all the winning teams for their impressive performances.

Tennis icon Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, who also attended the event, expressed his gratitude to the GCU administration for its role in promoting sports in Pakistan. He fondly recalled his time as a student at GCU, which played a pivotal role in his career as a professional tennis player.

Secretary Muzaffar Khan Sial reiterated the Punjab government's ongoing commitment to promoting sports across the province, underscoring its importance in the development of youth and national talent.
