Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has approved a comprehensive solid waste management plan for rural areas of Islamabad’s Zones 4 and 5, covering 65 union councils.
According to a press released issued on Thursday, the plan approved by the CDA Board under the vision of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and the leadership of CDA Chairman Sohail Ashraf, aims to establish an integrated waste collection and disposal system using modern technology.
Under the plan, the 65 union councils of Zones 4 and 5 will be brought into the organized sanitation network. The initiative will address the lack of proper solid waste management facilities in these rural areas.
Around 342 tons of waste will be managed daily, while 1,610 personnel will be deployed for solid waste management services in rural area of Islamabad. As many as 103 different types of machinery will be used for garbage collection and cleaning operations.
A regular door-to-door garbage collection system will be introduced in Bani Gala, Ghauri Town, Lehtrar and other rural areas. Mini-tippers and hand carts will be deployed on long routes and narrow roads where large vehicles cannot operate easily.
The CDA will use route optimization and GPS tracking to improve the transfer and disposal of waste. The entire system will be monitored through a central command and control centre.
A daily cleanliness performance report will also be prepared at the union council level. The system will include digital attendance and field deployment monitoring to ensure effective utilization of sanitation staff.
The CDA will also use Safe City technology and facial monitoring to strengthen supervision of cleanliness operations.
The authority said all possible measures would be taken to address public complaints regarding waste collection and sanitation services promptly.
A modern cleanliness system is being introduced with the assistance of a leading Turkish waste management company.
Chairman CDA Sohail Ashraf said no area of Islamabad would be neglected in terms of cleanliness and directed that practical measures be taken to improve sanitation services across the capital.
Member Environment Abdullah Khurram Niazi will monitor the implementation of the project.
