Islamabad: The Central Directorate of National Savings (CDNS) has set an ambitious target of Rs 60 billion for Islamic finance bonds during fiscal year 2026-27, signaling continued efforts to expand Shariah-compliant financial products and strengthen the Islamic finance market in Pakistan.
The move comes after CDNS mobilized Rs 61 billion through Islamic investment products during the first 11 months of FY2025-26, exceeding its annual target of Rs 55 billion well before the end of the fiscal year.
The strong performance reflects rising investor interest in Shariah-compliant investment avenues and the growing importance of Islamic finance within Pakistan’s financial system. Officials said increasing demand for interest-free investment options has encouraged both individual and institutional investors to participate in Islamic savings schemes.
A senior CDNS official said the institution had placed greater emphasis on Islamic finance during the current fiscal year, with the encouraging response demonstrating growing public confidence in Shariah-compliant investment products.
The official added that the continued expansion of Islamic finance could play a significant role in developing Pakistan’s Islamic economy while contributing to broader and more sustainable financial growth.
Islamic bonds and Shariah-compliant savings certificates have been among the key drivers of CDNS’s recent success. These instruments provide investors with investment opportunities consistent with Islamic principles while also helping channel domestic savings toward economic activity.
CDNS’s latest achievement builds on its progress in previous years. The institution recorded Rs24 billion in Islamic investments during FY2024-25, while it mobilized nearly Rs75 billion through Islamic bonds in FY2023-24.
Officials said further reforms are underway to expand access to Islamic investment products. Digital transformation, improved services and the introduction of new savings instruments are expected to make investment more convenient and efficient for customers across the country.
With its latest target set at Rs60 billion for FY2026-27, CDNS is seeking to build on the momentum generated by its recent performance. The initiative is expected to further broaden participation in Shariah-compliant savings and reinforce Pakistan’s move toward a more diversified, inclusive and resilient financial system.
