Peshawar:: A check dam was inaugurated in Muslimabad, Kohat on Wednesday as part of efforts to improve water storage and irrigation facilities in the area, while rehabilitation work on a joint canal serving Kamal Khel, Daud Khel and Shadi Khel has also been partially completed.
Chairman District Development Advisory Committee (DDAC) Kohat and Member Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Daud Shah Afridi inaugurated the check dam at a ceremony attended by local elders, community representatives and residents.
Local residents said the project would help store rainwater for community needs and could also support agricultural activities in the future.
Afridi said projects aimed at improving water storage and management could help reduce the impact of water shortages and drought, adding that development work focused on public needs and basic facilities would continue.
Separately, rehabilitation and repair work on a section of the joint canal serving Kamal Khel, Daud Khel and Shadi Khel has been completed using development funds allocated by Daud Afridi and National Assembly Member Shehryar Afridi.
Work on the remaining section is continuing, with efforts to complete the rehabilitation before wheat sowing begins so farmers can have timely access to irrigation water.
Residents said the check dam and canal rehabilitation projects could improve water management and facilitate agricultural activity in the area.
