Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday paid rich tribute to police martyrs, saying their supreme sacrifices in the line of duty had ensured peace, security and protection of citizens’ lives and property.
In her message on Police Martyrs’ Day, the chief minister lauded the courage and resilience of the families of fallen police personnel and said the sacrifices rendered in the fight against terrorism, extremism and crime would always be remembered.
She said the Punjab Police had consistently demonstrated unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order and safeguarding public safety across the province.
CM Maryam Nawaz said the provincial government was fully committed to the welfare of martyrs’ families by providing quality education, healthcare, housing and other facilities to their children. She said Lahore had emerged as one of the safer cities due to the sacrifices of police martyrs and the Safe City Project, adding that the city had outperformed several developed cities in the Numbeo Crime and Safety Index.
The CM said the government was equipping the Punjab Police with modern weapons, advanced communication systems, protective equipment, bulletproof vehicles and other essential resources to further enhance its operational capacity. She said the sacrifices of police martyrs had produced lasting results, adding that areas once affected by lawlessness, including the riverine belt, were now becoming secure and moving towards development.
