Bahawalpur: As part of ongoing efforts to preserve the city’s historic heritage, improve civic facilities and provide a better environment for citizens under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Commissioner Bahawalpur Division Irfan Ali Kathia, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Bahawalpur Syed Hasan Raza, visited Farid Gate.
The commissioner inspected the ongoing restoration and beautification work inside Farid Gate and at Shahi Bazaar and reviewed progress on the development project. Deputy Commissioner Syed Hasan Raza briefed him on various aspects of the project, ongoing construction activities and progress.
Irfan Ali Kathia walked through the area to inspect the ongoing works and assessed their quality and pace. He directed the concerned officials to complete all components of the development project within the stipulated timeframe and according to high-quality standards, stressing that no compromise would be made on the quality of construction. The Commissioner said restoration and beautification work at Farid Gate and Shahi Bazaar should be completed at the earliest, keeping in view their historical and commercial importance, so that citizens, traders and shoppers could benefit from a better environment and improved facilities.
He directed the relevant departments to ensure that shoppers and citizens visiting Shahi Bazaar faced no unnecessary inconvenience during construction. Effective arrangements should be made to keep traffic and pedestrian movement flowing, maintain civic facilities and minimize difficulties for the public during the execution of the project, he added. Irfan Ali Kathia directed that the restoration project of Farid Gate and Shahi Bazaar be completed within the stipulated period to transform the historic area into a more attractive, improved and citizen-friendly destination. Assistant Commissioner Bahawalpur City Iqra Mubeen and officials of the relevant departments were also present on the occasion.
