Commissioner orders speedy completion of Burns Unit, Children’s Hospital

District

Bahawalpur: Construction work on three major healthcare projects – the Burns Unit, Children’s Hospital and Thalassemia Unit – is being accelerated to ensure their timely completion and early provision of modern medical facilities to the people of Bahawalpur and adjoining areas.

A high-level meeting chaired by Bahawalpur Division Commissioner Irfan Ali Kathia reviewed the progress, construction pace and implementation of the projects being executed under the Punjab government’s ‘Healthy Punjab’ vision.

Deputy Commissioner Bahawalpur, Quaid-e-Azam Medical College Principal Prof Dr Sofia Farukh, Bahawal Victoria Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Abdul Rehman and other relevant officials attended the meeting.

The participants were informed that the Punjab government had released funds for the projects and arrangements were being made to keep construction activities underway in three shifts to ensure completion within the stipulated timeframe.

Commissioner Kathia directed the concerned departments to complete all projects according to approved designs, technical specifications and prescribed quality standards. He stressed that construction quality and transparency must be ensured alongside expediting the work.

He also called for close coordination among the departments concerned to prevent unnecessary delays and interruptions and ordered daily monitoring of construction progress and regular review of progress reports.

The commissioner directed that the Thalassemia Unit, being developed under a special healthcare initiative of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, be completed on a priority basis. He called for further acceleration of work on the project, which had remained delayed for an extended period.

He said completion of the Burn Unit would provide specialized treatment facilities to burn victims, while the Children’s Hospital would improve access to modern healthcare services for children. The Thalassemia Unit, he added, would enable patients suffering from the blood disorder to receive improved treatment facilities locally.

Kathia said the Punjab government and hospital administration were taking measures to complete and operationalize the three major projects at the earliest. He directed officials to maintain construction speed while ensuring quality and transparency at every stage.

He said completion of the projects would strengthen healthcare infrastructure in Bahawalpur and improve access to modern medical facilities for residents of the division and other parts of South Punjab.
