Commissioner sets fresh deadlines for road projects

District

Faisalabad Divisional Commissioner Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh has set a series of fresh deadlines for major road and sewerage projects across the city.

He ordered the concerned officials to accelerate construction work and warned that delays in public welfare schemes would invite departmental action as the administration moves to address prolonged disruption faced by residents and traders.

During a detailed inspection of the under-construction Millat Road, the divisional commissioner expressed serious dismay over failure to complete the project despite September 30 deadline.

He decided to initiate disciplinary action against the officials responsible for delay and gave the concerned departments a final deadline of October 25, 2026 for restoration of the road.

He directed the sub engineer concerned to remain present in the field instead of sitting in the office and personally monitor construction activities.

He made it clear that no excuse would be accepted for failure to complete public welfare projects within their approved timelines.

He ordered deployment of additional workforce on the section from Noor Pur Chowk to Family Mart on Millat Road to expedite the remaining work.

He said that the administration was aware of the difficulties being faced by citizens due to the incomplete road and directed the departments concerned to work round the clock to complete the remaining portion.

Talking to local residents and shopkeepers present at the site, Divisional Commissioner Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh assured them that the administration would continue efforts until their difficulties were addressed.

He also directed the Managing Director of WASA and Director Development to make regular visits to Millat Road and ensure transparent completion of the construction work under their direct supervision.

The divisional commissioner warned that there would be no place in the division for officials found negligent or avoiding their responsibilities.

On the request of local residents, the divisional commissioner also visited Noor Pur Sabzi Mandi Road where he took notice of an eight-month delay in the laying of sewerage pipes.

He directed the sub engineer concerned to commence work from Monday (October 05) and announced that he would personally visit the site the following Thursday to review progress.

He directed the Director Development to technically verify the timelines of development projects so that there was no room for unnecessary delays.

The divisional commissioner subsequently inspected the road from Mian Pind to Jhumra Road in response to public complaints and fixed December 15 as the deadline for completion of the sewerage-line work and January 15, 2027 for laying asphalt on the road.

He said the required ‘No Objection Certificate’ (NOC) had been obtained from Pakistan Railways and directed the departments concerned to accelerate the work so that residents of Mian Pind, Mansoorabad, Bismillah Park, Data Park, Nazar Niaz Road and Jhumra Road could be provided relief from the problems caused by the incomplete infrastructure.

WASA Deputy Managing Director Egnineer Saqib Raza informed the divisional commissioner that 80 percent of the sewerage-line work had already been completed.

Divisional Commissioner Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh also inspected the ongoing work from GC Women University Madina Town Road to Al-Aziz Mosque, where he reviewed the laying of 30-inch sewerage line under the Punjab Chief Minister’s package.

He directed the concerned officials to complete the remaining work by October 30 and ensure that construction activities remained on schedule.

He also received a briefing on the road construction project from Jaranwala Road to Government College Women University Faisalabad (GCWUF) and directed the departments to complete the work by the stipulated October 22 deadline. Even a single day’s delay would not be tolerated, he warned.

He ordered the contractor and field teams to operate in double shifts and said he would review the progress of the road construction on a daily basis.

He also reprimanded the Municipal Officer Infrastructure over the delay in lane marking on the road from GCWUF to Susan Road and directed him to ensure immediate completion of the markings.

He reiterated that departmental action would be taken against officials found using delaying tactics or failing to perform their responsibilities in public welfare projects.
