FAISALABAD:The speakers have stressed the need of comprehensive efforts for complete eradication of polio virus from Pakistan and said that unfortunately, Pakistan and Afghanistan are the only two countries in the world where polio has not been eliminated totally.
Addressing the polio awareness seminar under the auspices of Rotaract Club Senior Tutor Office, University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF), they said that total ten polio cases were detected in the world and out of them, four new polio victims were reported in Pakistan this year.
Bashir Ahmad Baig Assistant Governor Rotary Club said that the polio virus could not only paralyze children for life but also caused death.
He said that they were making all possible efforts to create awareness among the people so that deadly disease could be eradicated from the country once for all.
District Health Officer Faisalabad Dr. Jafar Hussain Malik said the polio vaccine protects children from being paralyzed for life.
He said that they were making all efforts to create awareness about the polio vaccination. The government of Saudi Arabia has made polio vaccine mandatory for Haj pilgrims, he added.
Associate Senior Tutor Dr. Fahad Rasool said that the UAF was regularly organizing seminars to create awareness among all sections of the society about the importance of polio vaccine so as to protect people from this deadly disease.
He said, “We should fully cooperate with the health department teams visiting the home so that the children could be protected from various diseases by completing the immunization course.”
President Rotary Club Faisalabad Downtown Dr Dilawaz Mujahid informed about the ongoing initiatives under the Rotary Club.
Nutritionist Dr. Benish Sarwar and others also addressed the seminar.
Later, the participants also took out a rally.
