Multan:Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr Faisal Saleem has ordered checking of medical stores, pharmaceutical companies and drug dealers across the district to curb the manufacture and sale of fake and banned medicines.
He issued the directives while presiding over a meeting of the Drug Quality Control Board, where cases against several medical stores and pharmaceutical companies found violating the Drug Act were referred to the courts for legal action.
The DC said that those playing with human lives for financial gains would not be given any concession, stressing that strict action must be taken against those involved in the illegal manufacture, sale or distribution of medicines.
He directed Drug Inspectors to conduct comprehensive inspections and ensure strict compliance with drug laws. He also instructed medical store owners to properly maintain records of cold-chain medicines and expired drugs to prevent their misuse and ensure safe disposal.
Dr Faisal Saleem further ordered the authorities to initiate verification of drug licences of pharmaceutical companies and dealers to ensure that only legally authorised businesses were operating in the district.
He also called for stringent action against the mafia involved in the illegal sale and purchase of narcotic injections, directing the concerned officials to make such elements a lesson for others.
The deputy commissioner directed all relevant departments to maintain close coordination and submit reports on violations so that effective legal action could be taken against those endangering public health.
