Lahore: A decision has been made to shut down wedding halls in Punjab that operate without suction hoods, strict action will be initiated once the deadline expires.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has taken a major decision to close and seal all marriage halls across Punjab that lack suction hoods, as part of measures to combat smog and environmental pollution.
Acting on the directives of Director General (Environment) Abdullah Nayyar Sheikh, field officers have begun taking indiscriminate action against violators of the regulations.
The EPA states that the deadline for installing suction hoods, designed to mitigate smoke and polluted emissions from commercial kitchens in wedding halls, was January 31.
With the deadline having passed, no leniency will be shown to halls operating without suction hoods, violators will face not only the complete sealing of their premises but also the imposition of heavy fines.
Officials stated that a “zero-tolerance” policy is being enforced regarding pollution from commercial kitchens, noting that over 500 restaurants have already been sealed for failing to install suction hoods.
