Lahore: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Faisal Kamran on Friday directed police officers to take immediate legal action on public complaints, ensure timely justice to complainants and submit progress reports on the issues raised during an open court.
During the open court, citizens lodged complaints concerning inheritance disputes, harassment, domestic disputes, fraud, threats and illegal occupation, according to a police spokesperson.
The DIG directed the relevant station house officers (SHOs) to take immediate action on every complaint and ensure that inheritance disputes were resolved in accordance with the law to prevent confrontations. He ordered that complaints lodged by women, senior citizens and persons with disabilities be addressed on a priority basis.
He further directed police officers to register cases without delay and initiate investigations wherever a cognizable offence was made out.
Faisal Kamran said a zero-tolerance policy was being followed against harassment, violence and social crimes, adding that the law was being enforced without discrimination.
‘Protection of citizens’ lives and property and timely provision of justice are non-negotiable,’ he said, directing that implementation of the orders issued during the open court be regularly monitored.
He warned that SHOs would be held directly accountable for negligence in addressing complaints, adding that the purpose of Lahore Police was not merely to register cases but also to ensure timely justice for victims.
The DIG said citizens could present their complaints directly at the open court six days a week from 1: 00 pm to 3: 00 pm.
Citizens attending the open court appreciated the initiative, describing it as an effective platform for prompt hearings and legal assistance.
