Dera ismail khan:: The Dera Ismail Khan Civil Society has called for concrete measures to improve law and order in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, curb corruption in public institutions, complete the flyover, drainage projects and establish a women’s campus and hospital at Gomal University.
The demands were raised at a meeting held at the residence of former MPA Nawabzada Mazhar Jamil Khan Alizai, co-chaired by Justice (Retd) Daud Khan and Sohail Ahmad Azmi. Abu-ul-Mazam Turabi, Gulzar Ahmad, Haji Abdul Rashid Dhap, Ali Marwat, Shafqat Qayyum Alizai, Rehana Firdous, Irfan Mughal and other civil society representatives attended.
Following the imposition of emergency and Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the meeting participants called for sincere and concrete measures to address the alarming security situation and rising terrorism across the province, particularly in Dera Ismail Khan, where law and order had deteriorated significantly over the past 14 years.
They also demanded accountability for alleged irregularities, merit violations, nepotism and overstaffing in universities, particularly Gomal University, urging the government to provide financial support to educational institutions facing deficits.
The meeting stressed the need to establish a women’s campus at Gomal University’s City Campus and a hospital at its main campus to facilitate allied health sciences students and residents of adjoining areas. Participants also called for an inquiry into delays and alleged corruption in the development projects and the stalled construction of three sports grounds, including the Polytechnic College Ground, Baisakhi Ground and Sports Complex.
The civil society representatives pledged to continue joint efforts to resolve the district’s collective issues without political interests or hostility.
