EPA confiscates banned polythene bags

Lahore

Lahore: As part of its campaign against environmental pollution, the EPA conducted field operations across various areas, inspecting construction sites, barbecue points, and waste disposal sites.

EPA Director General Abdullah Nayyar Sheikh, accompanied by Lahore Deputy Director (Environment) Ali Ejaz, inspected a construction site in Gulberg to assess adherence to prescribed SOPs and environmental standards during construction activities.

The EPA DG and the Deputy Director also visited various barbecue points on Kasuri Road to check for compliance with relevant SOPs and environmental regulations. An area visit was conducted in Kahna following a rise in the Air Quality Index, where a potential local source of air pollution was identified.

At the ‘Suthra Punjab’ waste disposal site in Toor Waraich, large-scale waste burning was observed, with the resulting dense smoke engulfing a vast area. Smoke rising from a waste disposal site is among the potential causes of the high Air Quality Index (AQI) in Kahna, operations to extinguish the burning waste are currently underway with the assistance of Rescue 1122.

Meanwhile, acting against violations of single-use plastic regulations, the EPA Lahore field office seized 1,250 kilograms of banned polythene bags from the Gilani Plastic Warehouse in Samanabad.

The Gilani Plastic Warehouse, located on Shah Kamal Road, has been sealed due to violations of single-use plastic regulations.
