Islamabad: Federal government has awarded a cash prize of Rs two million and a commendation certificate to national boxer Fatima Zahra for winning a bronze medal for Pakistan at the Commonwealth Games 2026.
At a dignified ceremony held in Islamabad, Senator Rana Sanaullah Khan, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Inter Provincial Coordination, presented the cheque and certificate to Fatima Zahra, terming her historic achievement a matter of pride for Pakistan, said a statement issued here.
Zahra made history by winning the bronze medal in the women’s 60kg boxing event at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. She is the first Pakistani woman boxer to win a medal in boxing at the Commonwealth Games.
Speaking on the occasion, Senator Rana Sanaullah Khan said that Fatima Zahra is a source of pride for the entire nation and a role model for young athletes. Her historic success has created new hope for Pakistan boxing and for women’s sports in particular.
He added that Fatima Zahra’s achievement is proof that the daughters of Pakistan have the full potential to bring glory to the country on the global sporting stage. The government will continue to provide strong encouragement to talented women and young athletes.
Sanaullah further stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, the Federal government is utilizing all possible resources for the promotion of sports in the country. The Prime Minister’s vision is to ensure that every child and youth in Pakistan has access to safe, quality, and affordable sporting opportunities.
He noted that steps are being taken to provide national athletes with international-standard training and modern facilities, while talented players are being given better opportunities to showcase their abilities at both national and international levels.
He said that Pakistan’s sports infrastructure is being aligned with modern requirements, and focus is being placed on expanding sports facilities to the grassroots level. The aim is to identify young talent at an early stage and provide them with world-class training.
