GILGIT:The first ever Ladies Bazaar Shigar completed in collaboration with Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP) here on Tuesday inaugurated. The inauguration was unique in the sense that it was wholly initiated by women only.
In this connection, Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan Muhiudeen Wani in an official statement said that our flagship initiative consists of 19 shops managed and run by female entrepreneurs. Ten shops have been opened today while the rest would be filled within no time.
He said that this used to be a Sikh Bazar which was in dilapidated condition, adding that the district administration in collaboration with Aga Khan Foundation turned it around in record time.
He said that the market was completely refurbished along modern lines and handed over to lady entrepreneurs by engaging local LSOs.
Chief Secretary said that local women had shown keen interest and excitement, with the market set to provide them with great economic activity. He said that with shops ranging from arts and handicrafts, bakery, IT centre, local garments etc, the market would turn into a tourist spot as well.
