Bahawalpur: The Divisional Development Working Party (DDWP) chaired by Commissioner Irfan Ali Kathia approved four development schemes worth a combined Rs824.38 million for Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan districts. During the meeting, the Commissioner received briefings from the Director Development through videolink on various development projects. Deputy Commissioner Syed Hasan Raza, Superintending Engineer Highways Rao Dilshad, Managing Director WASA Amjad Ali, Executive Engineer Buildings Bahawalpur Imran Nazir, Executive Engineer Highways Bahawalpur Fareed Anwar, Deputy Director Technical Waqas Muhammad Din, Superintending Engineer Irrigation and other relevant officers attended the meeting. Deputy Commissioner Rahim Yar Khan Zaheer Anwar Jappa and Deputy Commissioner Bahawalnagar Syed Muhammad Abbas Shah participated through video link.
The meeting approved the rehabilitation of a 1.2-kilometre road from Library Chowk to Khatm-e-Nabuwwat Chowk in Bahawalpur city. The meeting was informed that the road connects densely populated residential and commercial areas of the city. Its rehabilitation would also improve access for citizens to judicial and administrative offices as well as Bahawal Victoria Hospital.
In Bahawalnagar, the DDWP approved the rehabilitation, reconstruction and widening of roads under a District Council scheme, including the route from Arifwala Road to Bypass Multani Chowk via Basti Hafizabad, Basti Jatowala and Link Chishtian Chungi Road, as well as Khalid Maqbool Park Road. The project has a total length of 5.40 kilometres and, according to the briefing, the road would serve as an important alternative bypass connecting Chishtian Road with Arifwala Road.
The meeting also approved a scheme for the provision of a sewerage system and construction of a new park in Faqirwali, Tehsil Haroonabad.
The project is aimed at providing basic civic facilities to the local population and creating a better recreational environment for residents. For Rahim Yar Khan, the meeting approved the reconstruction of a 2.10-kilometre carpeted road from Adda Shidani to Chandni Chowk, Town Shidani Sharif, Tehsil Liaquatpur, along with the installation of tuff tiles and construction of a sewerage line under a District Council scheme.
Commissioner Irfan Ali Kathia directed the relevant departments to ensure transparent and effective
utilization of funds, high-quality construction and completion of all development projects within the stipulated timeframe.
He stressed that while timely completion of development schemes was essential, no compromise would be made on the quality of construction work. Commissioner Kathia said completion of these projects in accordance with the Punjab government’s vision would provide citizens with improved travelling, sewerage and other essential civic facilities, enabling the public to benefit from the development initiatives.
