Four premises sealed, two arrested over profiteering

Lahore: The district administration carried out 1,999 inspections during the last 24 hours and resulting in 60 challans, fines amounting to Rs208,000, sealing of four premises and arrest of two persons for repeated violations.



Acting on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Lahore Muhammad Ali Ejaz, Assistant Commissioners, Price Control Magistrates and teams of the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (PERA) conducted inspections across the district to check overcharging and profiteering.



In Allama Iqbal Town tehsil, 309 inspections resulted in nine challans, fines of Rs29,000 and sealing of three shops.



In Cantonment tehsil, 234 inspections led to two challans, fines of Rs2,000 and arrest of two persons.



In City tehsil, 219 inspections resulted in three challans and fines of Rs30,000.



In Sadar tehsil, 134 inspections were conducted, while 214 inspections in Model Town tehsil resulted in 10 challans and fines amounting to Rs25,500.



In Nishtar tehsil, 109 inspections resulted in four challans, fines of Rs11,000 and sealing of one shop.



In Raiwind tehsil, 258 inspections resulted in 12 challans and fines of Rs76,000, while 66 inspections in Ravi Town resulted in 11 challans and fines of Rs29,000.



In Wagah tehsil, 169 inspections were conducted, while 287 inspections in Shalimar tehsil resulted in nine challans and fines of Rs5,500.



The Assistant Commissioners also conducted 64 inspections of fruit and vegetable outlets and 45 inspections of chicken outlets, with fines amounting to Rs5,000 imposed for violations.



Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Ejaz said profiteering and overcharging would not be tolerated under any circumstances. He directed the concerned officials to ensure the provision of essential commodities to consumers at officially notified prices. He further directed Price Control Magistrates, Assistant Commissioners and PERA teams to remain active in the field and submit daily reports on enforcement activities.



The DC said strict action against violations of notified prices would continue across the district.
