Addressing the participants, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Iqbal described Oct 27,1947, as a dark day in Kashmir’s history, when Indian forces entered Jammu and Kashmir. He said the Kashmiri people had since faced oppression and serious human rights violations, including killings, the use of pellet guns and violence against women.
He stressed the need to strengthen diplomatic efforts to highlight the Kashmir issue at international forums and called for greater media engagement to raise awareness among the younger generation and counter Indian propaganda.
The vice chancellor said that despite persistent challenges, the Kashmiri people remained committed to their struggle for fundamental rights and self-determination.
He said the Kashmir dispute was not merely a regional issue but a matter of human rights, justice and self-determination, urging the international community and relevant institutions to play their role in finding a just solution. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with the Kashmiri people.
