Lahore: Following the suicide attempt of a student studying at a private university, Chairperson of the Punjab Women Protection Authority Hina Pervez Butt visited the General Hospital, where she met the student undergoing treatment and her family.
According to Hina Butt, the student has been removed from the ventilator after regaining consciousness and her condition is showing significant improvement. She asked doctors to utilise all available medical resources for student’s treatment. The chairperson said the student’s life was the top priority and the General Hospital administration should ensure strict monitoring of every stage of treatment.
Hina Pervaiz Butt also issued clear instructions to the police for a complete, transparent and impartial inquiry into the incident. She said that the investigation should closely examine the university administration, domestic tension and all aspects related to the incident.
The initial investigation revealed that the student was under severe mental stress, while aspects of pressure related to marriage of choice and education are also being examined.
The chairperson, while giving a message to the students and women, said that if they are under any mental stress, do not remain silent and seek immediate help.
