Multan:Provincial minister for Irrigation, Mian Kazim Ali Pirzada on Wednesday directed the officers concerned to submit detailed assessment report regarding grabbing and encroachments at irrigation land with in next 15 days to make proper plan to retrieve the land.
Talking to media persons, the minister said that different initiatives were being taken by the provincial government to facilitate masses as per vision of the Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
He said that the irrigation department paying special focus on the arrangements to prevent water theft. He lauded the officers concerned to ensuring equal distribution of water adding that after so many years the water reached to the farmers of tale of the canal.
Pirzada said that the credit goes to the irrigation officers for maintaining water distribution through an irrigation system of over 100 years old.
He said that best officers would be deployed during post flood season adding that as per the irrigation department, the flood was being considered
as a blessing.
To a question, he said that old machinery of the department was being examined, and after, the comprehensive reports, most of the machinery would be repaired while the remaining would be auctioned.
He said that vegetable with arsenic water was an issue, on which, the CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz has clear instructions.
He said that different projects were being launched in adjacent areas of big cities to ensure availability of vegetable with canal water.
The provincial minister while responding to another question, said that the forest department has assured irrigation department to provide over 1.5 million trees which would be planted at canals after distributing areas into zones.
Earlier, he presided over a meeting of the irrigation department in which Secretary Irrigation Dr Wasif Khursheed, Chief Engineer Multan Zone Muhammad Ashraf Bhatti and other concerned officers were also present.
