Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to construct a modern slaughterhouse in Islamabad under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, aiming to improve hygienic meat supply for residents of the federal capital and the twin cities while also creating facilities for meat export.
The decision was discussed at a meeting held at the CDA Headquarters on Thursday, chaired by Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa.
Officials briefed the meeting on the progress of the Islamabad Slaughterhouse Project and informed that the facility would be developed with modern and state-of-the-art infrastructure.
The project will include a fully equipped abattoir, chilling rooms and other allied facilities, and will operate under a service-based model to ensure standardized and regulated operations.
It was further shared that a designated commercial area and a separate animal trading zone will also be developed as part of the project to facilitate organized livestock trade. The financial model of the project was also reviewed during the meeting.
Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa directed the concerned departments to present the final design and project model before the CDA Board and the Meat Board for approval.
He said the completion of the project would help meet the meat requirements of the residents of Islamabad and Rawalpindi and would also support efforts to export meat to international markets.
The CDA chairman said the authority was utilizing all available resources to provide better and modern facilities to the citizens of the federal capital and to improve urban services in line with contemporary needs.
The meeting was attended by CDA Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza, Member Planning and Design Dr Khalid Hafiz, Director General Resources Shakeel Ahmed, Director General Works, consultants and other senior officers.
