District

Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police (IGP) Zulfiqar Hameed on Thursday directed trainee Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) to uphold the rule of law, merit and professional conduct while ensuring effective public service during their field postings.

He issued the directives while chairing a meeting at the Central Police Office Peshawar, where trainee ASPs from Peshawar, Nowshera, Dera Ismail Khan, Swat and Kohat briefed him on policing, crime trends, terrorism threats, law and order and security challenges in their respective districts.

The meeting was attended by Additional IGP Operations Muhammad Ali Babakhel and DIGs IT Ijaz Ahmed and Operations Shakir Hussain Dawar.

The trainee officers briefed the IGP on security threats, police response, counterterrorism measures, intelligence-based operations, crime prevention and steps taken to protect lives and property and maintain public order.

The meeting also discussed strengthening the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), development of police infrastructure, modern policing practices and measures to improve the overall security system.

IGP Hameed questioned the trainee officers about various aspects of their briefings and stressed that they should develop a thorough understanding of local security conditions, crime patterns, terrorism threats and public concerns.

He said the trainee ASPs would assume important leadership responsibilities in the police force in future and should therefore gain practical field experience and develop their professional and decision-making capabilities.

The IGP said public trust was a key strength of the police and directed the officers to provide prompt, transparent and effective services while performing their duties with integrity, commitment and professionalism.

He also urged the trainee officers to set clear priorities and goals in accordance with the demands of their profession and work consistently to achieve them without compromising professional ethics.

Other senior police officers also discussed matters relating to field policing, briefings by the trainee officers and their professional training.
