PESHAWAR:Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will implement the National Curriculum of Pakistan 2026 for classes 9 to 12 from the academic year 2027, requiring schools to use approved textbooks and warning of legal action for violations.
The Directorate of Curriculum and Teacher Education has issued instructions for the implementation of the revised curriculum, while the KP Private Schools Regulatory Authority has directed heads of private schools across the province to ensure strict compliance.
The new curriculum will cover English, Urdu, Mathematics, Computer Science, Chemistry, Biology and Physics, while General Science will apply to classes 9 and 10 only.
Under the new arrangements, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Textbook Board will prepare or revise textbooks for classes 9 to 12 in line with the national curriculum. All educational boards will also conduct examinations according to the revised curriculum.
The authorities have made prior approval from the Directorate of Curriculum and Teacher Education mandatory for textbooks prepared or revised under the new curriculum. Schools will not be allowed to distribute books without the required approval.
Private publishers must also obtain prior approval or a no-objection certificate (NOC) before publishing textbooks and supplementary study materials.
The Private Schools Regulatory Authority has asked school principals to review the curriculum directorate’s instructions carefully and ensure their implementation.
Officials warned that educational institutions and other concerned entities violating the directives could face action under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Supervision of Curricula, Textbooks and Maintenance of Standards of Education Act, 2011.
The new requirements will require schools, textbook boards, and publishers to align their teaching materials and exam preparation with the revised national curriculum before the start of the 2027 academic year.
