Dr Mari said post-mortem examinations had been conducted on the goats that died and samples from sick sheep and goats had been collected for examination. He said preliminary findings did not indicate an outbreak of an infectious disease.
He said the animals might have fallen ill after drinking contaminated or potentially toxic rainwater that had accumulated in local ponds. A water sample from a pond had also been collected and sent to a laboratory for further analysis, he added.
Dr Mari said treatment of sick animals was continuing and veterinary camps had also been established in nearby villages. He urged livestock farmers to ensure timely vaccination of their animals and contact the department immediately if they noticed any signs of illness.
