PPP leader calls PTI long march against public interest: Bacha

District

Peshawar:Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) President Muhammad Ali Shah Bacha has criticised the PTI-led provincial government for holding a long march amid the province’s worsening security and governance challenges, calling the political activity against public interest.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, he said the government should focus on terrorism, law and order, governance and unemployment instead of political mobilisation.

He questioned the rationale of holding the long march when the people of KP were already facing serious security and economic problems.

The PPP leader said the PTI had governed the province for around 13 years but the situation had deteriorated to an extent where terrorism, governance issues and unemployment were causing serious concern.

Referring to the long march from Lakki Marwat, he said the government should consider its impact on the security situation and the people of the province.

He also questioned the circumstances surrounding the killing of five Customs officials soon after the march began.

Muhammad Ali Shah Bacha alleged that the provincial government was diverting the attention of young people towards political activities instead of addressing unemployment and other issues affecting them.

He also claimed that government-opposition negotiations had reached substantial progress, with around 98 percent of matters settled, but alleged that the role of CM Sohail Afridi subsequently created hurdles in the process.

He said PPP had repeatedly offered cooperation to help resolve the province’s problems but the provincial government had not responded seriously to the offer.

The PPP leader urged all political forces to rise above partisan differences and work together to address terrorism, improve governance and resolve public problems in KP.
