Man arrested for assaulting sister-in-law over Rs.100 million dowry demand

Faisalabad: Police have arrested a man for allegedly subjecting his sister-in-law to brutal physical violence after she failed to bring Rs.100 million as dowry,police said on Sunday.



According to a police spokesperson,the accused,Muhammad Bilal,r/o Satiana Road allegedly tortured his sister-in-law, Zahra Fatima over the alleged demand for dowry from her parental family.



Police said acting on a complaint,ASI Farman of the Women Police Station conducted a raid and arrested the accused. Further investigation was underway.



City Police Officer (CPO) Tanveer Hussain said protection of women’s lives, property and legal rights remained a top priority for Faisalabad Police.



He said a zero-tolerance policy was being pursued against violence targeting women and children in line with the vision of the Punjab chief minister,adding that no person involved in domestic abuse or harassment would be allowed to escape the law.



The CPO directed investigating officers to ensure a transparent and merit-based probe to bring the accused to justice, adding that police would continue prompt action to ensure a safe environment for women.
