Lahore: Lahore police arrested a man for allegedly posing as a lawyer and senior government official and attempting to gain access to official records and security arrangements, police said on Wednesday.
According to a spokesperson for the DIG Operations, the suspect, identified as Saeed, visited the Punjab Home Department while posing as a lawyer and claimed to be a Deputy Prosecutor General and an officer of a sensitive institution.
The suspect also allegedly claimed that he had been secretly appointed by the Supreme Court and demanded access to government records as well as security arrangements, the spokesperson said.
Police launched an inquiry after finding inconsistencies in his statements and subsequently established that he was allegedly impersonating government officials, the spokesperson added.
Several fake cards of different government institutions were also recovered from the suspect, he said.
A case was registered against the suspect at Islampura police station under relevant sections pertaining to fraud, forgery and impersonation of a government officer, the spokesperson said.
Further investigation was underway to ascertain the suspect’s actual identity and determine the origin and use of the fake official cards, he added.
