MULTAN:President Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), Mian Rashid Iqbal, said that the textile sector was very important for the country’s exports and demanded long and short-term policies in consultation with the stakeholders associated with the industry for its revival and increase in exports.
He expressed these views while presenting annual report on the eve of the 64th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Mian Rashid Iqbal presented the performance report for the year 2022-23 and demanded of the government to control increasing electricity, gas, and petroleum prices.
Mr Rashid said that work should be made to promote local industry and products prepared at a local level should be encouraged.
He said that there was a need to take serious steps to resolve food security issues in the future and research should be done on value addition seeds for better production and cotton should be given top priority in this regard.
The government should take special measures for alternate sources of energy and State Bank of Pakistan should increase the limit of banks for solar energy. SBP should also continue the low mark-up ratio loan scheme for the promotion of solar energy.
He said that simple legislation should be made for establishing hydel power generation units and wind energy under public-private partnership through canal system.
Mian Tanveer A Sheikh, Khwaja Muhammad Yusuf, Mian Farid Mughees Sheikh, Mian Fazal Elahi Sheikh, Sohail Tufail, Khwaja Usman, Syed Iftikhar Ali Shah, Khwaja Muhammad Hussain, Saleha Hassan and others participated in the meeting.
