MIRPURKHAS:The District Education Department Mirpurkhas and the Civil Society Support Programme (CSSP) have signed an agreement to provide training to teachers of government schools on women’s empowerment, prevention of gender-based violence (GBV), positive masculinity and other important social issues.

The agreement was signed at the Education Department’s office by District Education Officer Elementary and Secondary Mir Fazal Muhammad Talpur and CSSP District Manager Muhammad Bakhsh Kapri.

Under the agreement, selected teachers will participate in training activities scheduled to be held in Islamabad from next month. The training will cover women’s rights, gender equality, prevention of gender-based violence, positive masculinity and other important social issues.

After completing the training, the teachers will conduct awareness sessions for male and female students at their respective schools to ensure that the benefits of the training reach as many children as possible.

Speaking on the occasion, Mir Fazal and Bakhsh Kapri said that raising awareness among boys and girls about gender equality, women’s rights and the prevention of violence was an urgent need of society.

They said schools were an effective platform for promoting awareness and shaping positive attitudes and behaviours among children.

They further stated that awareness sessions conducted by trained teachers would not only educate students but also enable them to convey positive messages to their homes, families and neighbourhoods.

The collaboration between the two institutions marks an important and welcome step towards promoting gender equality, empowering women and building a safe, equitable and violence-free society.
