Hyderabad: The 43rd death anniversary of 16 democracy martyrs, who sacrificed their lives during the Movement for the Restoration of Democracy (MRD) against dictatorship, was observed with reverence at their native village Panhal Khan Chandio on Tuesday.
A commemorative and condolence gathering was organised by Member of the Sindh Assembly Ghulam Qadir Chandio at the martyrs’ village. Pakistan Peoples Party Shaheed Benazirabad District President Muhammad Salim Zardari, Senior Vice President Mir Muhammad Siyal, District General Secretary Syed Ali Haider Shah, party leaders and workers, local government representatives and office-bearers of various party wings attended the gathering in large numbers.
Speakers paid tribute to the martyrs, saying that the sacrifices of the 16 workers remained an important chapter in the history of the struggle for the restoration of democracy.
Quran Khwani was held and prayers were offered for the departed souls. Participants also reaffirmed their commitment to upholding the ideals for which the martyrs had sacrificed their lives and continuing the democratic struggle.
