Rawalpindi:The Kahuta Police on Tuesday managed to nab a member of the gang carrying out robberies in its jurisdiction, a Rawalpindi Police spokesman said.
He further said police recovered stolen items, including Rs 30,000 in cash, two mobile phones, and weapons from the arrested accused identified as Umar.
The police were conducting raids to capture other members of the robbers' gang, he added.
Muzaffargarh:At least three passengers were injured when a passenger vehicle overturned at Sehrani bypass.
The vehicle was going from Layyah to Dera Ghazi Khan.
According to rescuers, the van overturned due to reckless driving, as reported by eyewitnesses. Two of the injured, Dilshad Hussain (50), son of Muhammad Abdullah, and Mushtaq Hussain (42), son of Khadim Hussain, sustained minor injuries. They were treated on the spot and discharged after providing them with the first aid.
The third victim, Shahzad Ahmad (40), son of Ghulam Rasool, suffered severe injuries. He was shifted to the Rural Health Center (RHC) for further medical treatment.
All three injured individuals were residents of Basti Dogar Kalasra in the Layyah district.
Multan:Multan police have arrested three accused and recovered fireworks material and products in
large quantity in an operation in the city, police said on Wednesday.
Accused Ashraf, Sarfraz, and Asghar Shahzad were arrested in an operation carried out by Delhi Gate
police team led by SHO Muhammad Asghar under supervision of SP City Hassan Raza Khakhi at Hafiz Jamal area near Metro station Chowk.
Police spokesman said that Multan police would continue to operate against criminals and illegal businesses in the district.
Hyderabad:Pro Vice-Chancellor of Sindh University Laar Campus Badin Prof. Dr. Khalil ur Rehman Khambhati has assumed charge as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Sindh University.
According to the university spokesperson, the outgoing Vice-Chancellor Prof. Emeritus Dr. Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro formally handed over the charge to Dr. Khambhati during a simple yet graceful ceremony.
The event was attended by prominent academic and administrative figures including Pro Vice-Chancellor of the main campus Prof. Dr. Abdul Sattar Shah, Registrar Prof. Dr. Mushtaq Ali Jariko, Director of Dr. M.A. Kazi Institute of Chemistry Prof. Dr. Arfana Begum Mallah, Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences Prof. Dr. Nek Muhammad Shaikh, Director of the Institute of Business Administration Prof. Dr. Imam ud din Khoso and Pro Vice-Chancellor of Thatta Campus Prof. Dr. Misbah Bibi Qureshi, among others.
Following the formal proceedings, Dr. Khambhati and attendees offered a collective prayer. A large number of faculty members and administrative officers extended their congratulations to the new Acting Vice-Chancellor.
After assuming charge, Dr. Khambhati visited the mausoleum of the founding Vice-Chancellor Allama I.I. Kazi, where he laid a floral wreath and offered prayers. Speaking on the occasion, he expressed his commitment to continuing the excellent policies of his predecessor, Dr. Siddique Kalhoro. However, he emphasized stricter financial oversight to ensure the transparent utilization of the university's resources.
Islamabad:The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday commuted the death sentence of two accused to life imprisonment in the Osama Sati murder case.
The court, however, acquitted the other three accused including Saeed Ahmed, Shakil Ahmed and Muddasir Mukhtar from the case.
A division bench comprising Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kyani and Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan announced the verdict on the appeal against the sentence of the accused. The five accused have filed the appeals to the IHC against their sentences by the trial court.
In its judgment, the court commuted the death sentences of two accused Muhammad Mustafa and Iftikhar Ahmed to life imprisonment.
It may be mentioned here that the trial court had announced death penalty to two accused and imprisonment sentence to other three. The five accused had challenged their sentences to the IHC.
The accused, who were the personnel of Anti-Terrorism Squad, were alleged to shot down a 22-year-old boy in an area of Sector G-10 in 2021.
Islamabad:The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony on Wednesday announced that the first phase of the Hajj training programme for pilgrims will commence this week across several cities.
According to the official spokesperson Muhammad Umar Butt, training sessions are scheduled to take place in multiple locations starting Thursday, January 23, 2025.
He said training programmes will be held in Bannu, Islamabad, Mandi Bahauddin, and Shaheed Benazirabad.
The following day, Friday, January 24, training will be conducted in Charsadda, Lakki Marwat, and Islamabad, he added.
He said the programme will continue on Saturday, January 25, with sessions in Islamabad, Lahore, Tank, and Umerkot, Sindh.
Umar Butt advised the pilgrims to attend the training camps according to the schedule provided by the Ministry. For those residing in other cities, he said they can attend sessions at the nearest available locations.
He said overseas Pakistanis are required to attend the training at the relevant Hajj camps upon their arrival in Pakistan.
The spokesperson further clarified that new applicants, who have paid the fee, will be allowed to participate in the training programmes upon presenting their bank receipts.
A total of 85,560 pilgrims will receive training at the Tehsil level across the country, he maintained.
