CM condemns attack on govt vehicles in Kurram


Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has strongly condemned an attack on government vehicles in Kurram.



In her statement, she expressed deep concern over the incident and extended her best wishes for the swift recovery of the injured Deputy Commissioner Kurram Javedullah Mehsud.



CM Maryam Nawaz stated that such cowardly acts of terrorism would not weaken the resolve of the nation. She emphasized that the spirit of the people remains strong and unwavering in the face of such attacks. She further reaffirmed that the nation stands united in the fight against terrorism and that these cowardly acts will not undermine the collective resolve to achieve peace and security.

Applications to be received for solarization up to 6th


Faisalabad: Agriculture farmers can apply for solarization of their tube-wells under Chief Minister (CM) Punjab’s Solarlization Program up to January 6.



A spokesman for the agriculture (extension) department said here on Saturday that the government had planned for transition of 8000 electric and diesel-powered tube wells on solar energy across the province.



He said that Rs.9 billion was earmarked for CM Punjab Kissan Package and this program would help the farmers get rid of costlier electricity for their tube-wells.



He said that farmers, who had their own land and tube well installed before October 30, 2024 were eligible for solarization program. The eligible candidates should submit their applications up to January 6, 2025. The government would provide them subsidy of Rs.500,000 on power kits of 10 kilowatts, Rs.750,000 on 15-KW and Rs.1 million on 20 KW power kits whereas farmers would pay remaining amount of the system, he added.



He said that this program would help the provision of cost-effective and sustainable energy solutions to the farmers by reducing their dependency on conventional energy sources. This project will also help alleviate the burden of rising electricity costs, he added.



He said that interested farmers could download application forms from the Punjab Agriculture Department’s website www.agripunjab.gov.pk or apply online at CMSTP portal.

Eye specialist advises early diagnosis to cure colour blindness in children


Islamabad: A renowned eye surgeon Dr. Umair Kidwai on Saturday while explaining the conditions of colour blindness disorder said that “Colour blindness is a vision problem where a person has difficulty distinguishing between certain colours, especially red and green.



Talking to a private news channel, he said that this happens when the colour-detecting cells in the eye, called cones, do not work properly.



He noted that colour blindness is usually inherited and passed down through families. “It is more common in men than women because it is linked to the X chromosome,” he added.



Dr. Kidwai highlighted the different types of colour blindness, such as red-green colour blindness, blue-yellow colour blindness, and a rare condition called total colour blindness, where a person sees only in shades of gray.



Regarding treatment, he explained that while there is no cure for inherited colour blindness, special glasses or contact lenses can help some people see colours better.



“In cases where colour blindness is caused by an illness or injury, treating the underlying issue may improve vision,” he said.



Dr. Kidwai emphasized the importance of early diagnosis, especially for children, as it can help them adapt and perform better in school and daily life.

‘Improvisation Through Nature’ on display

Lahore: The Coopera Art Gallery hosted the opening of a solo exhibition titled "Improvisation Through Nature" by Mariyam Idrees Sandhu on Saturday. The gallery showcased over 100 vibrant artworks that reflect the artist's deep connection to and inspiration from nature.

Among the collection, approximately 40 pieces explore the theme of improvisation in nature, while 66 smaller paintings focus on detailed studies of birds. The exhibition's avant-garde approach left a significant impression on visitors, highlighting the artist's creative vision.

Prof. Dr. Rahat Naveed Masud inaugurated the event, commending Mariyam's artistic prowess and the gallery's dedication to promoting young talent. The opening ceremony attracted a diverse audience, including artists, students, and art enthusiasts. The exhibition is open to the public until January 6, from 10:30 AM to 6:00 PM.
