SBP injects Rs823 billion in the market


Karachi: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), on Thursday, injected Rs823.45 billion in the market through reverse repo purchase and Shariah Compliant Mudarabah based Open Market Operations (OMO).



The SBP conducted Open Market Operation, Reverse Repo Purchase (Injection) on January 2, 2025 for 8-day tenor and, as per results issued, accepted an amount of Rs627.95 billion offered through 11 bids.



The central bank received 11 bids cumulatively offering an amount of Rs627.95 billion at the rate of return ranging between 13.06 to 13.09 percent.



The central bank accepted the entire amount offered at 13.06% rate of return. Meanwhile, SBP also conducted Shariah Compliant Mudarabah based Open Market Operation for 8-day tenor and injected Rs195.5 billion into the market.



The central bank received 4 bids quoting an amount of Rs195.5 billion at the rate of return ranging between 13.10 to 13.12 %.The SBP accepted all the 4 quotes with the entire offered amount at 13.10% rate of return.

Actress Nargis, husband reconcile

Lahore: Film and stage actress Nargis and her husband, Police Inspector Majid Bashir, have reached a settlement in a case involving domestic violence.

A mutual agreement was submitted to the Lahore sessions court, signaling reconciliation between the two.

During the hearing of Majid Bashir's bail application before the additional sessions judge, both parties presented the settlement agreement.

Nargis's lawyer argued before the court that the agreement was facilitated by the elders of both families, and on their advice, the actress decided to forgive her husband. The lawyer assured that neither party would breach the terms of the settlement.

Following the reconciliation, Majid Bashir requested for withdrawal of his bail application, which the court accepted.

Subsequently, the court disposed of the bail application for being withdrawn.

The case stemmed from a domestic violence complaint filed by Nargis at the Defence C police station in November 2024. The actress had accused Majid Bashir of assaulting her. She also shared a video on social media that showed the actress with multiple bruises on her face, eyes, and other parts of her body.

Uzbek Ambassador, TDAP Chief Executive discuss bilateral trade

Karachi: The Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Pakistan Alisher Tukhtaev and Trade Counsellor Bakhrom Yusupov called on Trade Development Authority Chief Executive Zubair Motiwala and Sheryar Taj here at TDAP Headquarters on Thursday.

Various issues related to enhancement of bilateral trade between the two countries were discussed during the meeting.

A brief presentation was given by the Ambassador of Uzbekistan followed by a video on investment opportunities and trade potential in Uzbekistan.

The Chief Executive TDAP also briefed the Uzbek Envoy on working and functioning of TDAP. He also emphasized the importance of TDAP'S official web portal, PTP.

The two sides also agreed to participate in more than the existing number exhibitions in the respective countries and exchange trade delegations simultaneously.

The Secretary TDAP apprised and invited Uzbek Ambassador to attend upcoming mega events of TDAP like Healthcare and Engineering Show at Lahore and Food Agri Manufacturing Exhibition, Lahore.

ATC holds jail hearings of two high-profile May-9 cases

Lahore: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Thursday conducted the hearing of two high-profile May-9 cases, including the Askari Tower attack and the torching of Shadman Police Station in the Kot Lakhpat Jail.

ATC Judge Manzer Ali Gill conducted the proceedings of the cases in the Jail. However, due to the incomplete attendance of the accused, the court could not proceed with the indictment. Several accused, including Khadija Shah, who are currently on bail, failed to appear.

The court emphasized the importance of full attendance and directed all accused to ensure their presence at the next hearings.

The court adjourned the Shadman Police Station torching case till January 9 and the Askari Tower attack case till January 13.

Detained PTI leaders Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, and others were present in court, and their attendance was recorded.

Tiger Club wins hockey match


Bahawalpur: Tiger Hockey Club Bahawalpur won opening match of Inter-Club Hockey Championship,held here at Dring Stadium on Thursday.



The match was played between Rohi Hockey Club Ahmadpur East and Tiger Hockey Club Bahawalpur. Tiger Hockey Club team dominated the game,scoring nine goals,while preventing Rohi Hockey Club team from making a single goal.



Divisional Sports Officer Bahawalpur, Aamir Hameed along with members of the judges committee including Muhammad Zahid, Irfan Bashir and Secretary, Hockey Association Bahawalpur, Taimor Sameen Khan attended the match. A large number of citizens were present at the stadium to watch the hockey match.



The final of the Inter-Club Hockey Championship will be played at Dring Stadium Bahawalpur on 4th January 2025.
