Bugti inaugurates 7th Agricultural Census in Balochistan

Quetta: Balochistan Chief Minister, Mir Sarfraz Bugti on Wednesday inaugurated the 7th Agricultural Census 'integrated Digital Count' linked with GIS technology in the province.

He said that the 7th Agricultural Census would play a pivotal role in Balochistan's contribution to the national economy.

Bugti emphasized that the agricultural census is an important process and preparing the reliable statistics are essential.

The chief minister mentioned that agriculture and livestock sectors are the backbone of the country's and Balochistan's economy.

He directed provincial departments to collaborate with the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics for collecting accurate and multi-dimensional data.

He directed that the data compiled in the 7th Agricultural Census should be shared with the provincial government.

Sarfraz Bugti added that the compiled data will also be verified by the provincial government departments at the local level.

The chief minister expressed that he does not want any unreliable data to be included in the agriculture census.

CM Bugti emphasized that the Balochistan government and the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics will promote mutual cooperation for data-based agricultural policies.

He highlighted that the 7th Agricultural Census is a significant step towards ensuring agricultural development and food security in the country.

The ceremony was attended by Provincial Minister for Agriculture Mir Ali Hassan Zehri, provincial ministers, advisors, members of the assembly, Chief Secretary of Balochistan Shakeel Qadir Khan, and senior officials from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

This was stated by Deputy Commissioner Cap (Retd) Nadeem Nasir by distributing caps and uniforms among facilitators here Wednesday.

He said that various services about government departments are now available to citizens

by sitting at homes. They can call facilitators to avail any service by ringing helpline 1202 or through

Maryam Ki Dastak App.

He said that 105 coordinators in the district have so far completed 1108 tasks while 637 others are in pipeline at various departments.

Lanjar warns of action against protesters blocking roads, urges peaceful demonstrations

Karachi: Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar emphasized the importance of peaceful protests while ensuring public roads remain open, in light of ongoing sit-ins across Karachi.

Speaking at a press conference at the Karachi Police Office on Wednesday, he stated that while the government is ready to provide protesters with a safe space, blocking roads will not be tolerated.

Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar urged protesters to vacate the roads, warning that action would be taken if they refused. "I am offering negotiations through Commissioner Karachi and Additional IGP Karachi," he said. "We are open to dialogue, but the government will enforce its authority."

The Home Minister reaffirmed the government's commitment to maintaining law and order, stating that law enforcement agencies will fulfill their duties to protect citizens and prevent the shutdown of the city. He clarified, "We will not compromise on the safety and freedom of movement for the people of Karachi."

IGP Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon and Additional IGP Karachi Javed Alam Odho were also present during the briefing.

Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar noted that initial agreements with the protesters included assurances that roads would not be blocked, but over time, the number of sit-ins grew, leading to disruptions. "Our intention is not to target any group, but if the state's authority is challenged, we will assert it," he added.

He further disclosed that 19 individuals had been arrested and 3 cases registered under various legal sections due to the unrest. The Home Minister expressed concern over the difficulties citizens face due to road closures.

In reference to the situation in Parachinar, Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar acknowledged the Sindh government's solidarity. "We condemn the atrocities in Parachinar, and as proposed by Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tesori, we have sent aid. The ongoing violence there is condemnable, and the KP government must seek a resolution."

Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar said while claiming to be peaceful, the protesters have caused damages, including the burning of eight motorcycles, one belonging to a traffic cop. Several police personnel were also injured, with five sustaining minor injuries and three in serious condition.

One of Alhamra’s most significant achievements in 2024 was its expanding global outreach. The council hosted a series of internationally acclaimed festivals, including the Faiz Festival, Lahore Literary Festival (LLF), Think Fest, Habib Jalib Mela, Theatre Festival, Adab Festival, Lahore Biennale, Jashan-e-Jaun Eliya, and the Hazara Festival. These events attracted thousands of visitors, including international delegates and cultural enthusiasts, reinforcing Alhamra’s position as a global cultural hub.



In addition, Alhamra collaborated with embassies of Germany, France, and Spain to showcase their cultural expressions. This partnership brought world-class performers to Lahore and solidified Alhamra’s role in fostering cross-cultural exchange. The year also saw significant infrastructural improvements, including vital repairs to Hall 2’s stage and backstage areas, as well as the installation of an elevator in Hall 3. Alhamra’s calendar was replete with events celebrating Pakistan’s national and religious heritage. “Chand Raat” festivities and “Eid Melas” united communities, while “Mehfil-e-Qawwali” nights and classical music concerts featured artists, celebrating the nation’s traditional art forms.

Iranian Consul General calls on Balochistan Speaker


Quetta: Iranian Consul General Mr. Hassan Darvishvand paid a farewell call on Speaker of Balochistan Assembly Capt. (R) Abdul Khaliq Khan Achakzai in his chamber on Wednesday.



During the meeting, the Speaker paid tribute to his services as Consul General in Quetta and thanked him for the assistance provided during his tenure.



The Speaker said on the occasion that the Islamic Republic of Iran is a close neighbor and long-standing friend of Pakistan, with which relations are exemplary and brotherly. He reiterated that the bilateral relations between Pakistan and Iran would always remain strong and durable.



He said that Balochistan would make every effort to promote economic and trade relations with Iran.



He also stressed the need for measures to further strengthen people-to-people contacts and cultural ties between the two countries.



Hassan Darvishvand expressed satisfaction over the traditional friendly relations between Pakistan and Iran and hoped that these relations would deepen further in the future.



He thanked the Speaker while expressing his best wishes for the people of Balochistan and also appreciated the hospitality extended by the people and government during his stay in Balochistan.



He said that the people and government of Balochistan have always shown cooperation with Iran, which has further strengthened the friendly relations between the two countries.



In the meeting, both leaders stressed the importance of promoting mutual cooperation between Iran and Pakistan. In particular, detailed discussions were held on enhancing cross-border trade, cultural exchange, and cooperation in the energy sector between Balochistan and the Iranian province of Sistan and the province.



Cabinet terms beginning of Pakistan’s term as UNSC member, big achievement on diplomatic front


Islamabad: A meeting of the federal cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday termed Pakistan’s two-year term as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) as a significant achievement on the diplomatic front.



Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar earlier, briefed the cabinet about Pakistan’s term at the UNSC which began today. The meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s House, according to PM Office Media Wing.



During the meeting, the prime minister directed that the details of public sector imports from Gwadar Port, over the past three months, should be presented in the next meeting of the cabinet.



The cabinet gave its principled approval for legislation on amendments to Section 3(7) of the Pakistan Telecommunication (Reorganization) Act, on the recommendation of the cabinet division/secretariat.



It also recommended approval of the regulations for the appointment of Information Group officers as Press Officers at Pakistan’s diplomatic missions abroad, proposed by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.



These regulations would ensure a more transparent and merit-based process for the appointment of Information Group officers at Pakistan’s foreign missions.



The cabinet approved the registration/recognition of Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Thatta, on the recommendation of the Ministry of National Health.



The cabinet, in light of the judgment in Human Rights Case No. 623-P/2017 by the honourable Supreme Court of Pakistan and the recommendation of the Ministry of National Health, approved the reconstitution of a committee to determine the prices of life-saving medical equipment.



On the recommendation of the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, the cabinet approved sending the National Food Safety, Animal and Plant Health Authority Bill to Parliament.



It also ratified the decisions taken in the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Legislative Cases held on December 17, 2024. However, the ratification of amendments to the Citizenship Act has been deferred.



The cabinet accorded its approval to the decisions taken in the meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee held on December 18.



The cabinet ratified the decisions made in the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on State-Owned Enterprises held on December 24.
