Peshawar Mor Itwar Bazaar’s closure temporary: Tariq Fazal

Islamabad

ISLAMABAD:Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said on Tuesday that the closure of ‘Itwar Bazaar’ at Peshawar Mor was temporary and that efforts were underway to reopen it soon.

Speaking at Senate, he said the market had been established to enable growers to sell their produce directly to consumers at affordable rates, cutting out middlemen.

He said the first such market was set up at Aabpara in 1983-84 under the name Jumma Bazaar. It later expanded to three days a week, with markets also operating in G-9 and H-9.

Tariq Chaudhry said the markets benefited both consumers and families selling their goods, and also provided employment.

He said he would discuss the reasons for the closure with the relevant authorities and work for the market’s restoration.
