PIA unveils new cabin crew uniforms designed by HSY

Karachi

KARACHI:Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has unveiled its redesigned cabin crew uniform collection, created by renowned Pakistani fashion designer Hassan Sheheryar Yasin (HSY), as part of efforts to refresh the airline’s onboard image and enhance its passenger experience.

According to a PIA spokesperson, the new collection combines contemporary fashion with Pakistan’s cultural heritage and is designed to reflect the national carrier’s identity, hospitality and evolving corporate image under its new management.

The uniforms feature modern silhouettes, breathable fabrics and structured tailoring, with an emphasis on comfort, durability and ease of movement during long-haul flights. The designs also incorporate subtle elements of Pakistani craftsmanship while maintaining the functional requirements of cabin crew duties.

PIA has a longstanding association with prominent fashion designers. In 1966, French designer Pierre Cardin created the airline’s A-line tunic and hood, followed by British designer Sir Hardy Amies in the 1970s. More recently, Pakistani designer Nomi Ansari contributed to the airline’s uniform designs for approximately 12 years.

The latest collection has been designed by HSY, one of Pakistan’s prominent couturiers, who has incorporated traditional Pakistani textile influences with contemporary international tailoring.

‘Designing for our national flag carrier is about capturing our collective pride and the genuine warmth of Pakistani hospitality,’ HSY said, adding that the aim was to create uniforms that offered crew members comfort and confidence while reflecting the country’s heritage and modern fashion.

The final design was selected following a competitive showcase held in Karachi, where 10 leading Pakistani fashion designers presented their concepts before a jury comprising fashion personalities and industry representatives, the press release said.

The new uniforms are scheduled to be introduced on October 31, 2026, aboard PIA’s inaugural Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner flight from London to Islamabad, according to the airline’s spokesperson.

The launch is expected to mark a new phase in the airline’s visual identity as it seeks to project a contemporary image while maintaining its association with Pakistani culture and hospitality.
