Peshawar: Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) Parliamentary Leader in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Ahmed Kundi has called for comprehensive measures to address the service-related issues of Levies and Khasadar personnel and revive economic activity in the merged districts.
In a call-attention notice submitted to the provincial assembly, Kundi said thousands of Levies and Khasadar personnel had continued to perform their duties in challenging and sensitive areas to maintain peace and protect local communities.
He said the personnel deserved an effective service structure, timely promotions, basic service rights and benefits on a par with police employees, urging the provincial government to take practical steps for resolving their longstanding concerns.
Kundi also drew attention to the difficulties confronting the business community in the merged districts, saying disruptions to trade and industry, the prolonged suspension of Pakistan-Afghanistan commerce and taxation issues had placed additional pressure on local businesses.
He said the economic slowdown was affecting employment opportunities and livelihoods and called for coordinated efforts to restore commercial activity in the region.
The PPPP leader urged the provincial government to approach the federal authorities with concrete recommendations for facilitating Pakistan-Afghanistan trade and promoting investment and industrial development in the merged districts.
He also called for a taxation framework that took into account the distinctive economic conditions and ground realities of the former tribal areas, saying supportive policies could help generate employment, strengthen local businesses and accelerate sustainable economic development.
