LAHORE:Rana Farooq Saeed, acting President of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Central Punjab, extended a warm welcome to the recent decision by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to schedule the much-anticipated general election for January 2024.
In a video message released on Thursday, he expressed his appreciation for the crucial step towards a democratic transition. However, he underscored the necessity for the Election Commission to provide a clear and definitive election date, emphasising the pivotal role such an announcement plays in resolving the prevailing political and economic uncertainty within the country.
Furthermore, he placed significant emphasis on the need for a transparent constituency delimitation process. He believes that addressing the ongoing uncertainty is vital to finding a path towards political and economic stability in Pakistan.
Recognising the hardships faced by the common people due to rising inflation and unemployment, he advocated for a level playing field for all political parties. He stressed the importance of organising worker conventions at the divisional and district levels within the PPP’s organisational units. He firmly stated that the PPP opposes any restrictions on political parties and called upon political leaders to unite and jointly decide on the election date.
