Islamabad: The Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) have explored avenues for collaboration in science, technology and research to develop innovative solutions for disaster risk reduction and management.
Chairman PSF Prof. Dr. Mohammad Akmal, accompanied by Member Science PSF Dr. Mirza Habib Ali, visited the NDMA and held discussions with its senior officials on strengthening cooperation in disaster management through research and technology.
During the visit, the Director General NDMA briefed the PSF leadership about the Authority’s mandate, functions, technical expertise and capabilities in disaster risk reduction and management.
The meeting discussed the identification and development of research- and technology-based projects aimed at addressing emerging challenges related to natural and other disasters.
The two sides also explored the possibility of establishing linkages with universities, particularly institutions located in the northern areas, to promote research, innovation and technological solutions for disaster preparedness, risk reduction and response.
The collaboration would provide an opportunity to harness scientific expertise and academic research for developing practical, technology-driven solutions to strengthen Pakistan’s capacity to deal with disasters and climate-related challenges.
