Reflective safety measures made mandatory for wheat-straw transporters

District

Faisalabad: SSP Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) Faisalabad Region Mirza Anjum Kamal said that PHP police have stepped up road-safety measures for vehicles transporting wheat straw and directed the suppliers to ensure prominent reflective tapes, proper lighting and other precautionary measures on tractor-trolleys and trailers to prevent accidents particularly at night and during periods of poor visibility caused by dense fog.

Chairing a special road-safety meeting with wheat-straw suppliers, he reviewed arrangements for safe movement of tractor-trolleys, trailers and other vehicles carrying wheat straw while particular focus was put on reducing the risk of accidents during night-time travel and dense fog.

The SSP directed the suppliers to ensure that prominent reflective tapes were installed on both the front and rear sides of vehicles transporting wheat straw.

He said that the reflective markings would help approaching motorists identify the trolleys in time during darkness and low-visibility conditions, thereby reducing the chances of rear-end collisions and other serious accidents.

He further instructed the suppliers to ensure that vehicles transporting wheat straw maintained safe speeds, carried adequate and functional lights and complied with all other essential safety requirements.

He directed that the drivers involved in the transportation of wheat straw should be strictly bound to observe road-safety laws and precautionary measures, stressing that negligence in this regard could put precious human lives at risk.

He said that protection of human lives and prevention of road accidents were among top priorities of the Punjab Highway Patrol, adding that effective measures would continue to be taken in coordination with all relevant stakeholders to improve road safety.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the wheat-straw suppliers assured the Punjab Highway Patrol of their full cooperation and pledged to implement the prescribed road-safety measures.
